I’ve thought before that many obsessive standoms are primed to slip down fascist pipelines. But I’ve been wondering lately how much that’s to do with what they’re stanning, and how much it’s just that this type of person is more predisposed to that kind of thing.

“It's both possible, and even necessary, to simultaneously enjoy media while also being critical of its more problematic or pernicious aspects" was such a simple message that was so thoroughly and viciously rejected, but i think many of you still need to learn it

the personal is political, the political is personal, all art is political, all art is the product of collective labor and history and culture and context, all art is a speech act, and as a speech act all art has illocutionary and perlocutionary force, art says something about both artist & audience

"never criticize anything that anyone else enjoys, pleasure alone should totally shield a thing from any scrutiny" is simply point-blank anti-intellectualism, anti-critique, anti-literacy, and yes inevitably a rape cultural and patriarchal attitude

There was a photo of Zohran Mamdani sitting on the couch looking adoringly up at his wife Rama while she stood over him cradling his chin in her hand, and I can't find it now. I think it was scrubbed from the internet, which would be WILD lol

After Midnight Mass came out, I remember reading comments online from folk saying the Sheriff was playing the victim card, or that Islamophobia isn’t a thing anymore etc…

And then Zohran Mamdani enters the chat in 2025 and is greeted with abhorrent Islamophobia & 9/11 jibes.

Well well well…

My brain just collapsed in on itself. I feel like the entire West Coast would follow suit.
I think Elon Musk should hook up with Amanda Palmer

Rewatching Midnight Mass and this show really does feel like old worn-in comfort clothing, to me. Yeah I watched it a billion times for the werewolf!Hassan au I wrote, but it's more than that, it just slots in so easily into my internal media landscape like few other things have.

(Incidentally I do feel this unwillingness to sit with and exam discomfort is why sexism and racism and transphobia and other bigotry is hard to root out--most of us don't want to be bad people but instead of interrogating we justify. Discomfort is okay! It's useful!)

I think the two things I appreciate most about my fic-writing skills are: being able to modify my narrative tone to suit different canon/settings/genres/pov characters, and (related) my ability to write absolutely absurd nonsense in a way that seems in-character/believable to the reader.

What does "DK" mean in a reader tag on an AO3 bookmark?

The ability to be still and think deeply is a necessity for humanity (humane-ness) that has too often been reframed as a frivolous luxury superceded by a reckless pace of production and consumption exacerbated by contemporary capitalist society.

I really enjoyed and appreciated this video (there's an ad at the end for a streaming service, just to put that in context). This introduced me to the idea of haptic visuality and now I will have to read the Laura Marks book about it!
this is fantastic, a thorough and compellingly argued theory of modern cinematic sludge

Something I'm musing on: the endless churn of Content to Consume as fast as possible, the push for people to recklessly seek out the hottest new show/book/movie/trend and discard the old... It hinders our critical thinking skills.
