My entire adult life Media & Political Elite amplified concern that right-wing extremist access to elite universities was core free speech issue, then in 2024 same Elite decided leftist protestors had too much free speech, then in 2025 Trump defunded the universities & banned huge swaths of speech
Linda McMahon on Columbia settlement: "This is a monumental victory for conservatives who wanted to do things on these elite campuses for a long time because we had such far left-leaning professors."

a small corollary to this: when elected, Orbán was popular, his policies were popular, and he stayed popular. Trump, on the other hand is unpopular and is pushing increasingly unpopular policies. we are being led to Orbánism by our institutions and our elites.
A classic coordination failure: everyone makes excuses for why they go along with authoritarianism rather than resisting. And democracy and the rule of law crumble. We thought our institutions and culture were stronger, but we are following Hungary's path.
Former US ambassador to Hungary: "After years watching Hungary suffocate under the weight of its democratic collapse, I came to understand that the real danger of a strongman isn’t his tactics; it’s how others, especially those with power, justify their acquiescence." (h/t @bnovak.bsky.social)

it’s absurd that NYT forced him to delete these skeets, which … convey the factual information that Zohran Mamdani is, in fact, a man of South Asian descent who was born and raised in Africa, and that the pseudonymous source of the hacked material is a white supremacist eugenicist.

Another insane ruling because they think of children as property and their property is not subject to other’s laws. Basically stand your ground but the kid is the house
the basic throughline from the Court’s first amendment cases today is that the presence of children essentially removes constitutional protection from what would otherwise be clearly protected free speech.

I’m curious why you think the six justices in the CASA majority allowed multiple universal injunctions against the Biden administration to stand, then abolished universal injunctions within six months of Trump’s return to office

As a legal scholar I look past superficial distractions like the content of the case or even the consistency of the justices’ prior handling of the injunction question to ask: did the majority claim to now endorse my personal pet issue, and did it cite my friend in doing so?

So am I reading this court decision correctly? We now have 50 micronations with their own laws interpreting the U.S. Constitution wholly separate from one another? But there's one guy with private law enforcement who is immune from all punishment who can do whatever he wants in those 50 states?
