@themerl.bsky.social C19th högs are great, but so are C18 göats, no?

This one is from our copy of British Zoology (1776) and you have to say, it's a fine animal. It has gravitas. Its facial expression (best described as phlegmatic) is at odds with the magnificence of the horns.

Food charities have coordinated a letter to the UK govt calling for the 470,000 children in England who meet the eligibility criteria for Free School Meals but who are currently not signed up, to be automatically enrolled "so that they don’t miss out on a hot, nutritious meal at lunchtime" (1/x)

Woke up thinking about the bowl with little feet. ☺️ It just makes me so happy. The copies I ordered from the Met Store just shipped and it’s the highlight of my week. LMAOOOOO. I don’t know why I’m so excited but baby, I feel like a million bucks!
It's been MONTHS since I went to the museum and I'm still thinking about this ancient lil bowl with feet.

it's kinda sad that digital work is so hidden

like there's no messy study room or bookshelves full of works you've read or letters from people and gizmos and widgets you've built or stacks of drawings and diagrams

it's all just, hidden in folders, already lost in space, and eventually lost to time

I'm once again asking for a show where a librarian, a bookseller, and a carpenter travel around helping people manage their out-of-control book collections. Discuss their sentimental value, their rarity, their histories, then build amazing book nooks and shelves and little libraries to organize them

It took just 8 years to go from 100 TWh to 1000 TWh.

It will only take 3 years to go from 1000 TWh to 2000 TWh!

This is one of my favorite, low-tech, ways of visualizing the past! Doesn't oversell the reconstruction, shows possible past and present in same view, works, rain or shine and without power.
An interesting way to help people visualize what a ruin used to be.

Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1k/month. A year later, nearly half had housing.

They also had fewer ER visits, nights spent in a hospital, and jail stays.

The report estimates that this reduction in public service use SAVED the city $589k.

Participants in Denver's basic-income program reported having more-secure housing, though results were similar in the trial and control groups.

Every post now has the ability to “detach” quote posts.

Quote posts are great but sometimes they’re used to dunk on people. This tool gives you a quick way to remove your post from the quote, reducing the unwanted attention that a quote might bring.

It’s really pretty cool that one thing you can do to support people you like is ask your local library to get their book because it doesn’t cost you anything, it helps them, and the librarian gets to know someone actually wants to read a book and not just use the computer for Roblox
