The failure of the “blue no matter who” crowd to rally behind Mamdani really just lays the reality of that position bare, doesn’t it?

Day 24 of Emmanuel Garcia being in federal custody.
He’s a 15 year old autistic boy who went missing 4 weeks ago. Houston PD found him, contacted ICE & his Mom is fighting to get him back
She’s not allowed to visit him.
They’re keeping a disabled kid from his family & the media is largely silent

What did people do before SNAP?”
They died.
Healthcare, vaccines, disability support, education & food assistance are vital to our survival.
They’re why the average lifespan isn’t 35 anymore
The mark of a good & decent society is whether it sees the value in helping others.

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

People scream about taxes being “theft” when it pays for healthcare, food assistance or disability support
They don’t object to taxes for war, infrastructure or enriching the billionaire class
They object when it benefits folks they see as useless eaters.
They don’t want us to survive.

When you say only the “genuinely disabled” should receive support, you’re aiding fascism.
When you say people are scamming the system, you’re aiding fascism.
Many disabilities are invisible and it’s hard to get support.
People aren’t scamming. That’s “useless eater” rhetoric designed to divide.

I lived in a homeless shelter for most of 2016. The wildest part is how many people who also lived there worked every day. One guy was a manager at Family Dollar. Very disheartening...

One of the most egregious myths of patriarchy is The Protectors power fantasy that men protect women & children & are quick to violence in response to men harming them. The rates of violence against women & children vs men preventing or avenging show otherwise.

You can easily say that descendants of Italian, Irish and Jewish immigrants to America today face radically less levels of systemic discrimination than their ancestors did in the 1800’s without being like “and actually that discrimination never even existed”. Erasing that history is genuinely insane

Some good news - seahorses resurgent!
Two decades of tireless work restoring habitat & creating eco-mooring sites (so boats' anchors don't tear seagrass out by the roots) by The Seahorse Trust & @noc.ac.uk, has paid off with a spectacular summer of seahorses off the Dorset coast this year 🌊

1. More Americans work at the Cheesecake Factory than in the entire coal industry, and that won't change. It's because of automation, not snooty libs.
2. Coal energy is now more expensive than wind and solar.
3. So this means: higher energy prices, more pollution, no jobs benefit. Genius!

Energy Secretary Chris Wright on Fox: "We're announcing today expanded programs to help the American coal industry. We're helping it because for years it has been under assault. It was out of fashion with the chardonnay set in San Francisco, Boulder, and NYC ... coal just makes the world go round."
