Women & girls are not more or less strong because of what men do to them. "Victim" & being victimized are not shameful. Predator & victimizer should be. When you tell girls to be strong to prevent harm, you silence & shame them. And help men hurt them.

Going to add that this is especially harmful for girls & misogynistic fathers love trotting this line out so they never have to learn their daughters' experiences & hold men accountable. After all, why would a girl reveal that a man hurt her if she thinks she'll be viewed as weak & complicit?

This is victim-blaming & rape culture. Women & girls aren't going to "strong" their way out of men harming us & patriarchy oppressing us. The implication here of course is that if a man victimizes me, it's because I'm weak. Not like the "strong," superior women who take it & don't complain.

You could make this argument for bombing and regime change in the US. “Donald Trump was ineligible for the presidency in 2024 under the 14th Amendment, and therefore the United States must be bombed to restore democracy.” Somehow I don’t think the pundit class would be so credulous in that case.

Unpopular opinion, especially here: what's happening on Twitter isn't new or exclusive to Twitter. It's just one flavor of what men make the world for women. Including social media. To suggest women keep fleeing to allegedly safer spaces is gaslighting ignoring the actual problem. Men.

I have done the hard work of therapy and healing and growth. I have tried to love myself and my body more. I have worked to internalize, with varying degrees of success, that it was not my fault.
But the experience proved that at the end of “passing” is just being a woman. From pariah to property.
