I loved this conversation with Andi, and tried to get at something important that I think has been lost: feminism is a discrete ideology, and has a more specific meaning than “anything any woman ever says about gender.”

Women: will men please stop assaulting us?
Men: Not All Men!
Women: ok, will you hold the bad ones accountable?
Men: not our responsibility. You're a strong, independent woman. Deal with it.
Women: ok, we'd like to be able to avoid men
Men: no! You must give us access as a class.

“The dual class action suits allege that the functions—which followed thousands of sexual harassment and assault lawsuits against Uber and Lyft over the years— have limited the economic opportunities for men and discriminated against them because of their gender.”

It's pretty well established through multiple high quality studies that clothes made recently wear out faster than clothes in the past did, but saying so apparently makes you a "reactionary crank".
these people are reactionary cranks literally making some of the most archetypal cranky-old-person complaints you could imagine, and it makes me feel crazy that apparently no one can see it

I still wear clothing I wore in high school - & no it wasn't high-end fashion. It was inexpensive clothing my parents could afford for kids. It has lasted longer than things I bought a few years ago.
Your argument here is that consumer goods across a wide swath of categories have not, in fact, decreased in recent decades? You really genuinely don’t think there has been a secular decline in the quality and durability of the average product?

okay. i guess if men simply cannot for some mystical essential reason be separated from their rulership status, then they must be abolished as a class.

every time one of these wastrel losers opens their mouth to whine and wheedle that men simply naturally "need" to be the boss of women and fathers simply "need" to be the masters of the home it only further convinces me that capital-F Fathers and Fatherhood must be totally abolished as a concept.

The New York Times’ editorial decisions make more sense when you remember their publisher is a fifth-generation owner who was handed the paper as a birthright while the managing editor was a Harvard legacy whose father founded Staples.
They’re very firm believers in the meritocracy, you see.

A lot of this country’s problems boil down to straight white men who see themselves as some sort of default “normal” but any variation on that as “an identity” that is “political”

Supremacist ideology is one helluva drug. And so effective those benefiting from & enforcing it can really convince themselves they aren't but they are being victimized by "political" identities existing & having the same rights & access as they do.

I am once again saying that we saw what wall to wall, panic coverage of a crisis looked like after the Biden debate and there’s no reason Trump isn’t getting that kind of coverage except for class solidarity.
So the oldest person ever to become president keeps falling asleep in his office during public events and there’s no big public discussion on how this is a coverup or how republicans are lying to us about how this government is running?

I'm a simple woman. I see Vince Gilligan, I watch.
He has my complete & utter (conditional) loyalty after creating my favorite show. Rhea Seehorn being incredible again is just a bonus. Pluribus' first two eps have my attention.

There’s a young southern woman on tt doing an experiment: calling churches & asking if they can help her get baby formula, saying she can’t afford it. Of the 30+ she’s called, nearly every church has said no. The ones who said yes were:
Black Baptist Churches
A Mosque
A small Appalachian church

Saw a post about a Republican who now denounces current Republicans, specifically with signs. He was in the comments accepting praise so I looked at his profile which had something about dominating MAGA. I won't pretend I don't mock MAGAts & take pleasure in their humiliation. Ridicule is resistance

The people wanting to compromise on trans people's rights & representation in society are just as dangerous as the brazen bigots wanting them dead. The former emboldens & facilitates the latter.

I stand by what I said. There is no agreement in this issue because it’s impossible to solve. It lies beyond the realm of philosophy or science. It can’t be said only shown. I support trans rights, btw, but the responses to this are a perfect illustration of fanaticism.
