Still think it’s weird they gave the fake Econ Nobel to a bunch of guys in 2024 for figuring out how bank runs work when George Bailey solved that problem way back in 1946

stay woke, read the British financial newspaper owned by a Japanese stock market index and media conglomerate
Even 5 years ago if you had told me CBS News would go this way whereas the WSJ wouldn’t it would have surprised me — ultimately I think purveyors of business news are the only ones insulated from these dynamics because when rich people are paying you for market-moving news you can’t mess around.

I think it’s pretty bad that the president and White House staff write on the level of a sixth grader
Per @garretthaake.bsky.social, the extremely tacky "presidential wall of fame" that lines the colonnade to the West Wing now has obviously-Trump-penned plaques insulting or praising the presidents.

It's also just not materially worth the stress of believing you (or your child's) fate is tied to going to a highly selective institution. Outcomes at most state flagships compare well to the most selective:

This is very exciting news, not only because it's cool and interesting and could represent a major leap forward for modern construction technology, but also because it opens the door to a brutalism revival www.scientificamerican.com/article/pomp...
Pompeii Time Capsule Reveals Why Ancient Romans Were Such Incredible Builders
Lime granules trapped in ancient walls show Romans relied on a reactive hot-mix method to making concrete that could now inspire modern engineers

My core complaint is that the MSNBC guy bought them and he’s just a dork so now The Onion makes cringe jokes for dorks
I have no problem with the Onion having hyperprogressive politics, all things considered there are lots of worse kinds of politics for comedy outlets to have

but you gotta be fuckin funny I am sick of the clapter stuff

I am willing to bet the food at House of Biryanis and Bagel World is better than anything you can find in at least 10 states
This is just a few minutes from my old Congressional office. Local high school has a 97% graduation rate, Netflix is opening a $1B movie studio down the road, and Bruce Springsteen was born and raised around the corner (and still lives there). So yeah…tell me more.

this is why people very far into the upper middle class should support building out a proper welfare state like @reprashida.govpeeps.us proposed the other day. you'd pay just a little for a tremendous amount of material security www.peoplespolicyproject.org/2025/11/20/r...
Rep. Tlaib’s Economic Dignity for All Agenda Would Bring Economic Security for Millions
The agenda would lower poverty by 42% and child poverty by two-thirds.
