The Complete Land Use Map of Los Angeles

(remember, this is current land use, NOT zoning)

I can't upload the full resolution here, so I'll post some zoomed-in details below:

the opportunity costs of car ownership are *massive*

if you invested the ~$1k/mo average cost of car ownership - over 20 years, you'll have $460k at 6% interest, v. wasting $240k on car ownership.

that's a swing of $700k folks.

e-bikes are an *incredible* investment.

Urbanism of Thessaloniki ✨

Somewhat fascinating to see people here are not just completely giving up on walkability and accessibility, they're also pretty much giving up on parks by dedicating large squares in dense residential neighborhoods (with good transit!) entirely to parking

Insane
The White House Military Office Marine Corps aide was on “Football” duty tonight for Trump’s latest trip to Mar-a-Lago—his private home/club. The ~45-pound satchel accompanies Trump 24/7, enabling him to authorize the use of any of our ~1,770 deployed nuclear weapons—up to 900 on alert—at any time.

Just a request to all the Light Duty Truck owners,

I know you dropped serious cash on that rig, but maybe leave it home more often

We need a streetscape that isn’t jammed up by your ego

Let’s be real, you’re not using that truck for what you bought it for

Going shopping in that is embarrassing

It’s hard to explain to people that republicans think that disabled children subsisting on sub-poverty level benefits need to have a lower standard of living so a billionaire can get another yacht because it sounds too cartoonishly evil.
Amidst the tumult, Congressional Rs are working on a budget bill to deliver huge tax cuts to the wealthy & corporations, cut benefits from people who need them, & massively increase deficits & debt.

One of the proposed cuts is to low-income disabled kids:

House and Senate Republicans’ proposed budget plans would force cuts to critical programs, worsening hardship for extremely vulnerable families and pushing many into, or deeper into, poverty. One...

Elon Musk just called Social Security a Ponzi scheme, so it’s worth reiterating: All functional retirement schemes, public or private, pre funded or pay as you go, are claims on future production - there's just no way, at scale, of storing current production for use during retirement

Evening rush hour in Utrecht.

Much more efficient than if everyone were in a car, without the constant noise and air pollution and without grinding the complete city center to a halt.

Now who wouldn't wanna commute like this?!

Kind of crazy that a shared Uber is cheaper than Amtrak capital corridor, and capital corridor doesn’t break even on fair revenue. What’s that about? Is it just that there’s a bunch of empty trains at low demand times?

The phenomenon of “leftist language policing” is 99% a product of centrists whining about it constantly. I almost never encounter it in real life and requests for vocabulary updates are typically non-binding guidelines for formal written documents.
This take is worth what you paid for it, but I think the language policing stuff has outsized political significance.
