We are calling on local, state, & federal authorities to conduct immediate oversight, to ensure that these facilities are held accountable & that access to counsel, the cornerstone of due process, is fully protected.

Social media feeds are increasingly being overrun by AI slop, writes José Marichal. But while the dangers of AI slop are often framed as large tech companies imposing dangerous tools on an unsuspecting public, perhaps we should also consider why we are so receptive to low quality content, he says.

Our inability or unwillingness to have our attitudes and beliefs challenged isn’t just an aesthetic problem, it is a political one, writes José Marichal.

Make no mistake, the SCOTUS decision about birthright citizenship IS ALSO ABOUT *birthright citizenship.*
The Court is using nationwide injunctions as the tail, wagging the dog, to take us back to an Antebellum view of citizenship.
That way led to war once.

The Supreme Court's Birthright Citizenship Ruling Is a Five-Alarm Catastrophe
In Trump v. CASA, the court hands the president yet more unaccountable authority—and yanks us into a neo-Confederate legal nightmare.

This article is worth a read. It’s a story about honor and losses - personal losses with big consequences that we all should mourn.
Seven years ago, Pauline Shanks Kaurin left a good job as a tenured professor, uprooted her family, and moved to teach military ethics at the Naval War College. Now she's leaving in protest of policies she can't support and that make her job impossible.

Thread by @armscontrolwonk.bsky.social noting that the US & Israeli bombings may not have destroyed the 60% enriched uranium AND may have left Iran with an enrichment site -- with more incentive to rush to weaponization. So the bombings may simply accelerate Iran's acquisition of nuclear weapons.
Why am I so unimpressed by these strikes? Israel and the US have failed to target significant elements of Iran's nuclear materials and production infrastructure. RISING LION and MIDNIGHT HAMMER are tactically brilliant, but may turn out to be strategic failures. 🧵 1/17

Worth noting that back in the 1920s many localities were filled with mask wearing vigilantes, many of whom were also police officers, who sought to rid the nation of foreign “contaminants.” That group was the Klan and they targeted Catholics, Jews, Black people, and Mexicans.
