i read this and i just see a lazy person with a skill issue
Real "oh my god, she admit it" moment here. Trump is treated as an uninteresting figure without agency so we can dump endless criticism on liberals for how they react to his "natural disaster." He "doesn't participate in moral frameworks" lmfao

“I’ve often said this and I don’t think I’m exaggerating too much: America may be the only country that hates art. Money is the only thing that’s considered a healthy habit. Art is considered neurotic, or it just shows that you have problems, whereas having money is somehow seen as totally healthy.”
In Dreams: An Interview With Jonathan Rosenbaum
Frank Falisi talks with film writer Jonathan Rosenbaum about putting our selves in criticism and reclaiming art and pleasure for all people.

In America, where irony is dead, a hotel chain uses a policy denying shelter to local people, for fear of accidentally housing homeless persons…

To deny a reservation to the author of a much-lauded book on how American economic unfairness forces working people into homelessness.
A Hampton Inn in Asheville just canceled my family's reservation because our address (incorrectly) showed Asheville—and the hotel bars locals within 50 miles.

When I asked why, they said, "because of our homeless population," adding that most hotels here have similar policies.

This is outrageous.

I feel it is important that we honor British film pioneer George Albert Smith. Yes, he helped pioneer editing, closeups, science fiction films, etc. but I think we can all agree that his greatest contribution was as an early trailblazer in the Cat Video genre.

Perform empathy. Please. Perform the fuck out of it. It's so good to act with kindness. I hope it penetrates to a place where you feel it, too, but if you must act some way, act the right way. I'm not here to judge your authenticity, I just want you to be kind, thoughtful, and mortified by meanness.

Because Bari Weiss is an opportunistic political maneuverer, it probably doesn't get said clearly enough that she is also an astounding clod, in wildly over her head. The fact that she seems to have spiked this story without realizing this would happen tells you all you need to know about her.

"Never spread the lie in the headline" should be a hard rule of 21st century journalism.

Research shows that repeating lies helps to spread them, and people read headlines more than they read stories.
News media has to do better with headlines that present false and unverified public health claims.

It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.

I knew the Reiner family tragedy would lead people to say some fucked up things about people living with addiction, but it's still hard to see that stuff. If you've lived with an addiction or loved someone who does or has, you know cruel generalizations don't help anyone or anything.

I'm searching Getty Images and found some photos credited to the Boston Herald that redact the faces of ICE/federal agents. They don't redact the face of the guy they're arresting.

I'm curious about the ethics of doing this. I don't think I've ever seen this on Getty before.

At a minimum, a Democratic President and Congress, when re-creating these indpendent agencies that Trump is gutting, or repairing other damage he's done - all with the consent/concurrence of the SCOTUS majority, must write the legislation to include sections removing SCOTUS appellate jurisdiction.

Simply amazing that the Supreme Court declared an end to legal race discrimination in the affirmative action case two years ago and now allows overt racism in both immigration arrests and redistricting.

Using race to help minorities? Bad. Using it to discriminate against them? Very, very good.

It's good—very good, and very important—that district courts keep issuing these 100-page rulings upholding the law. It must be incredibly dispiriting to see them overturned in a two-page, lawless, unsigned order, but please, keep them coming. They expose SCOTUS' corruption like nothing else.
