aaaaahhhh! I've been looking for a good photo of one of these for ages! I was just thinking about them the other day!
this was an art class project my brother made in second grade. the teacher spray painted computer punch cards for them to fold. the cards are stapled to a paper plate with garland around the center. i’ve always been very fond of it

their disappointment in fake cool animals was so disdainful, it would have shriveled an adult.

kids love imaginary worlds, but HATE being lied to. we need to be clearer than ever with them about what is real, what is fictional, and what is fake (=lies), and how to tell the difference.

EV: A primer

Exposure Value (EV) is the fundamental unit of measure that photographic ‘stops’ are in. While it gets a bad rap because of locked exposure systems on vintage cameras, it’s actually useful to understand when working with any camera as it demystifies exposure choices.

This image shows the same star field as Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) without cleaning.

In just 15 minutes of acquisition, we counted 1,659 satellite trails (about 400 individual ones).

Words cannot describe the pollution of near space.

This is the Sunburst Candy Spider from Thailand. Not AI (sucks to have to declare this). Very real and had been on my wish list for a long time.

The taxonomic placement is unclear, so we are leaving it at Cyrtarachninae.
