I adore miniminuteman and his efforts as a science/history communicator, fighting the tide of bullshit out there. But he left one important note out of his vid on the "mystery" out the Roanoke colony.

It’s hard to choose my favorite part of this wonderful panel we held in my writing classes this morning, but… no, yeah, my favorite part was absolutely the “fuck AI” part.

Huge thanks to these four brilliant panelists for our most fun session of the semester! 🤍
I was on a panel today, organized by the delightful @mruthrobinson.bsky.social , with @rsagarcia.bsky.social , @deborahldavitt.com and @filiphdz.bsky.social , and the unified front of hate and disdain for genAI when some asked how it had affected our writing process is still making me smile.

I'm in the current issue of Analog. I managed to negotiate to a contract I was willing to sign. Naively, I thought that established writers giving this feedback would eventually make a dent.

It hasn't. I don't know that it will. I just wrote to Trevor withdrawing a story I'd sold to him.
Did you read my post from last week about how contract woes caused me to withdraw an accepted story from F&SF, ending my 54-year quest to be published in that magazine? But wait (as the saying goes) — there's more! Scroll down at the link for an update. www.scottedelman.com/wordpress/20...

I myself am in the awkward position of awaiting a contract from Asimov's. I think, given Scott's account and others I have read of MRM's behavior, I will hope for a good contract, not expect one, deliver a single list of necessary changes if I get a bad one, and walk away if they won't meet them.

Without LGBT New Yorkers, Cuomo might’ve won. Mamdani’s genuine and relentless support of trans rights was not only morally correct, but an electoral necessity.
Centrist dems want buses running over LGBT people. @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social wants free and clear bus lanes instead. The difference won him the election.

Hello from Time-change-with-a-toddler Land!

THE SCIENCE SUGGESTS THAT YEAR ROUND STANDARD TIME IS BEST.

I know it’s the least of our worries right now, but let’s get some data driven policy going and end this hellscape of twice a year time change.

Study suggests most Americans would be healthier without daylight saving time
According to a new analysis by Stanford Medicine scientists, changing clocks twice a year disrupts circadian rhythms, leading to higher rates of stroke and obesity.
