it is genuinely so fucking sickening to me that so many people in this country view immigrants as slave labor
In the AC Hotel, we got word from a staff member that the agents were staying here and questioning the workers—the workers that were cleaning their rooms, the workers that were making their food. They were questioning them and asking for their ID and in a very aggressive way.

The conservative movement has turned against reality on every scientific issue of our time, from gun violence to climate change to epidemiology.

If campuses are ideologically homogenous, it's not because academia has ostracized conservatives. It's because conservatives have ostracized academia.

We elected a man everyone who matters in this country knew was an idiot. The bulk of them refused to say so openly and directly — either because they thought he could do something for them or because there are political and journalistic norms against speaking that way.

None of this damage by Trump or Musk would be possible without the full and unwavering support of the Republican Party. This is like pretending that the problem with the Civil War was that Jefferson Davis thought too much of himself.
One man just wiped out $10 trillion in wealth, is destroying centuries-old legal protections, and seems determined to unravel humanity’s greatest public health achievement. In 3 months.

I don’t know how we get out of this. But if we do, one person can never have that kind of power again.

A little while ago, my parents' cat Bridget went missing. As the weeks dragged on, they became extremely worried. My dad devised a way to distract himself: he began to paint Bridget's adventures, imagining her travelling through time and popping up in some of art and music's most iconic scenes.

How many train wrecks do we have to survive before we pull our heads out of our collective asses and let women run this country?

They called it from day one.

Millennials get called lazy and entitled

What the fuck motivation do other generations expect of us?

We have been screwed and traumatized over and over and over
I'm 18. The economy enters a once-in-a-century recession. A Republican president is responsible.

I'm 29. There is once-in-a-century pandemic that leads to a once-in-century-recession. A Republican is responsible.

I'm 35. Tarriffs trigger a once-in-a-century recession. A Republican is responsible.

The future is a web of branching paths, and each choice opens up new possibilities as it closes others. This is as true for a civilization as it is for an individual. The more our collective intelligence can inform each choice, the better our chances of finding paths through to a beautiful future.

a lot of times people say the press are "stenographers" and just report both sides even if one is lying. But "both sides" agreed that Trump was going to implement destructive tariffs.

That was bad for Trump so the mainstream media just imagined an alternate reality where he wasn't gonna do that
Apropos of nothing: Kamala Harris predicted this exact moment happening:

“Understand that part of Trump’s plan is to put in place a national sales tax of at least 20% on everyday goods and necessities.”

She warned us over & over again & she was so right.

I just got confirmation that National History Day, a program that does more to ignite K-12 students' love of history, learning, and yes, even the United States than anything else I've ever seen, had all its funding cut yesterday by the DOGE-axe at the NEH - including for this year's ongoing contest.

Grim but bracing: Chris Murphy explains WHY this is happening to us. 🤨
Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive.

No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief.

1/ A 🧵 to explain his plan and how we fight back.

honestly Millennials and Gen Z should be even madder about this than we are
My entire life has been marked by a brand new financial disaster knocking any progress I made on its ass & if people don't start letting me have feelings about that I am gonna redirect those feelings in a way they are not going to like & they are making themselves an obvious target.
