Oh, *do* I?~
Kinks are foundational to the Ravel as a whole and I try to utilize them in surprising ways. To that end, every character I plan always has a few kinks foundational to them as well. Of course, that doesn’t stop them from finding new ones as they develop, either.
Merry Christmas to those who celebrate, #Smutcember! I'm partial to the Yule vibes myself, but any excuse for a little holiday spice. 😏 With that in mind, we ask you:

Do you plan your characters with specific kinks, or do they arise organically?

#Smutcember 25: Some of both, always as manifestations of character/personality. My Central Polycule had core kinks going in, which are deeply entangled with their lived experiences and ways of being in the world: Emile's yearning to feel certain of his partners' desires fuels his submission; (1/x)

#Smutcember 24: Writing smut is a skill (a suite of 'em, depending on what you're doing), which can be learned like any other writing discipline(s). AND, the point of building that skill, IMO, is freeing yourself to express exactly the things that speak to your heart (and other parts 💖) (1/8)
Time to share some wisdom, #Smutcember:

What advice would you give others about writing smut? Alternatively, if you're newer to writing smut, what advice would you like to get from your fellow participants?

Happy #Smutcember 24!

How your characters approach sex should be as unique as your characters themselves. There's no rigid formula for how people are "supposed" to have sex; who your character is doesn't change.
However, DO keep in mind that a smutty scene is a great way to reveal character.

The humans in this book live on the margins of a capitalist society trying to bleed them dry.

That’s why they identify with the magical cephalopods whose reef has been destroyed by resource extraction.

The wealthy live in a compound high atop a hill, pissing on everyone downstream.
In some anglerfish species, the females are 100x bigger than the males.

When they mate, he fuses to her body permanently.

This was the inspiration for Disposable Magic:

A cephalopod romance about becoming one.

When people don't understand "write what you know" and think it means you have to write about things you personally have experienced/done, and therefore fantasy/sci-fi is out.

Take it from the mouth of the queen herself:

Thread.
So I am going to say something about romance as a genre.

A lot of people think that romance is ignorable because <insert thing they think about romance> and romance authors don't count because <insert thing they think about romance>.

This thread is not about whether you have to like romance.

I'm Lakota and I've seen the first one. I think James Cameron is a tool. He called us hopeless and said we have a dead end society but if our ancestors saw the future, they would have "fought harder"

Woke version of Kristi Noem saying there was "no hope" for Natives and talked down on our parents
Hi, Indigenous person here.

I've never seen any of the avatar movies, and after what James Cameron said about the Lakota people, I never will.
i don’t think everyone needs to like every film but the way people refuse to even take the avatar series seriously in any capacity feels so performative in a way no other series has ever been treated, very odd to me

Treat a published work that was later divulged to be AI-generated the same way you would if you found out it was manually plagiarized from a different book. Same situation, just the plagiarism has been automated and averaged out a bit, and the plagiarist is also a scab and a cultural arsonist.

There are many people who simply do not understand the stakes and either understate or overstate them. The issue is not that AI will replace writers or w/e: it can't. The issue is that AI will make our working conditions significantly worse and harm the development of new artists in our fields.

#DecemberWorldbuilders #ChroniclesOfTheRealms 23. Outworld is a haven for a lot of fierce giants! One of them is gürdulkha, a large and blocky beast with an also blocky head, a heavy club at the end of its tail, bony plates on its sides and along its back.

If that wasn't enough to make them (1/3)

Protesting against AI by commissioning weirder, kinkier art and making my stories so specific to my own emotional indulgences that they cannot be extrapolated by a machine.

I made my own lore and entertainment since I was five. I have shunned capitalist creative deficit for decades. I fear nothing.
