In Bludeye Beach, Edie had a best friend named Jade in the early part of her life. Jade doesn't get any page time, though she does get referenced; for a long time, she was Edie's only real friend.

Hello, #WritingPrompt!
In the beginning of Bludeye Beach, two of the most important relationships to Edie are her mother and maternal grandmother. A few months before the book starts, Grandma Delilah passes away, and Edie is still grieving when she goes to Bludeye. She and her mother remain close +

When prepping to draft this month, I made a point to do some planning via freewriting. I get frustrated writing a draft by hand, but for brainstorming, it's really helpful to slow myself down! (Plus, more visits to my beloved local coffee shop ❤️ )
How do ya'll like to brainstorm?

Constance Blake seeks out a local place to help her new daughter born without a charagma.
From #Charagma, my SFF dystopia about a world where all people are marked saved or damned from birth.

Happy #AwesomeCharacters!
Edie from Bludeye Beach likes *being* surprised (with nice things) but doesn't like knowing there *will be* a surprise - too many ways to kick off an anxiety spiral 😂
Milo would generally prefer no kinds of surprises at all, but tries to be ready for any eventuality.

Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters
Does your character enjoy surprises? Or would they prefer that things be routine?
Would they enjoy a surprise party but prefer no dangerous surprises? Or do they crave the excitement, even when there is risk?

Today's #WIPSnips is from very near the end, but I don't know if I would call it spoilers because like… this is the premise. Also my favorite "picture" and my favorite Blackthorne fourth wall wink.

I’ve completed manuscripts numbering in the double digits and I promise you, that only happens if you love the work. Writing is WORK, it’s hard, and you will always be terrible at it if the goal is to be Not Writing.
Sometimes I wonder if our many years of jokes about writers hating writing and doing anything but writing, etc, have convinced people that the writing part is the hurdle and the goal is just to have a thing in hand. But I am here to tell you: the writing is the best part. The act is the thing.

I think, at least in my #Atlantis WIP, it's that while it's absolutely fine to want to leave a legacy or wrestle with big philosophical concepts, in the end nothing lasts forever, so the relationships you have with people right now are what really matter more than anything.

There are a lot of little moments that show the development of romantic & platonic love, but this is one of the Big Ones from Bludeye Beach; not a triumph of good over evil, not even really a major solution. Just the willingness to go through it together. #writingcommunity

Hello, #Writevember!
I'm just about at the end of my first Act, which means I'm coming to the end of my better planned content. Usually this means I have to take some time to map out my next steps; I have some rough plans, and some shit that's definitely about to hit the fan 😇

Robin McKinley writes a beautiful range of female characters in her works; strong, fearful, hurt, suspicioud, kind, empathetic, curious women. Even her two different Beauty & the Beast retellings have very unique FMCs ❤️❤️❤️

There's already a bit of violence in Bludeye Beach.
And a gun wouldn't help against some of that 😅

I think my parents kind of ushered me away from books they thought would be inappropriate, but they weren't strictly banned. And since I was the youngest in a house full of avid readers, there was a lot of Stephen King & more lying around for me to get into 😂

Hello, #PretendPanel!
Having a specific goal number of words per day helps me immensely. For several years, the November writeathon tracker with a chance to get the Achievement Dopamine rush was the only writing I really did. I did a 12 in 12 one year, because it was so helpful.
