I'm seeing a lot of people write off Cory Booker's speech as “merely performative.” Of course in a sense it is a performance and doesn't achieve anything on its own, but the whole point here is to get people paying attention and involved, given the disastrous approval rating of the Democratic Party.

I love how incredibly predictable this was. Over the last 4 years I’ve updated to place more value on genuine protections for free speech while having ever less respect for the people who claim to make free speech their whole thing.

Leftists need to understand that a Dem Tea Party isn’t going to be DSA, because it’s not left policy advocacy that is motivating the Dem base. In fact the Dem base is pretty okay with the Dem policy agenda. The divide is along the fight/don’t fight axis

Yes. While there are absolutely things Democrats can and must do to slow, obstruct, etc, GOP hold both House and Senate majorities, severely limiting our options.

That’s because people who believe this tend to be reactionaries who start with a desire for violence rather than people who have exhausted nonviolent options
There are millions of people who thoroughly disagree that nonviolent reform is possible and it's wildly ignorant to pretend otherwise.
The problem isn’t that it’s impossible to build a fairer and kinder America through nonviolent reforms, it’s that many people - especially angry young men - WANT to live in a society where they have no recourse through nonviolent reform. Because they want violence.
