I know it's a bit of a semantic argument but I think in so many areas arguing reform vs. abolition what we actually need is just consequences.

Don’t waste time trying to make him think that materialism is true! Make him think it is strong, or stark, or courageous—that it is the philosophy of the future. That’s the sort of thing he cares about. The trouble about argument is that it moves the whole struggle onto the Enemy’s own ground.
i think it's a strange attractor for people who don't actually know anything. like the theme running through all this is not having to know anything of substance about the subject--not having to take and defend a position about what's actually true--and instead it's all just meta-discourse critique

IMO the dirty secret to AI is that it is hard to use effectively and using it properly is an ongoing learned skill and AI companies don't want to discuss this because it eliminates the management fantasy of Firing All The Workers.

It’s weird how despite Samus being a bounty hunter, bounty hunting isn’t really a meaningful thing in any of her games. A MGS V/Hitman hybrid bounty hunting sandbox in space seems like a sure slam dunk. You hunt perps to get better toys that offer better tools to get tougher perps.

Trump's inability to find a sacrificial no vote in the House isn't super surprising. These people all fucking hate each other and there are only a handful of actual ideologues who support the Trump agenda. Mostly its convenience, cowardice, and corruption--nobody wanted to dive on this grenade.

I think what's gonna be fascinating is seeing how high Trump's negatives can go. I think that's gonna be a hidden story, his positives might come down slowly but everyone fucking hates him as much as possible.

I do think much of the wishcasting about what Senate Ds could have won in the shutdown is silly, but I don't think the silly wishcasting changes the clear leadership failures this capitulation has demonstrated (insofar as there was any leadership at all).
