Tip for presenting your work, share the solution first.

I'm interviewing a lot at the moment, and I notice a lot of people both in their portfolio and presenting live, focus 90% on background and 10% on the solution. It should be the reverse.

Ireland: The number of housing sites where no building works had started despite a commencement notice being lodged has almost trebled.

Sadly been there done that.
Spare a thought for those poor souls on the Irish Ferries MV Ulysses tonight, still circling around the Irish Sea near Holyhead after leaving Dublin just after dawn this morning.

The absolute obsession with marketing everything into a brand means no one can contribute an important resource to the commons without having to try and create a mini cult of personality around it, and I think that might have been *not great* for our society overall

Banal observation, sorry, but conversations in Prague really brought home to me that while countries come and go, cities have a historical existence and character that typically is far more resilient.

Catherine Corless is the absolute hero.
Make no mistake, this excavation wouldn’t be happening if Catherine Corless hadn’t stuck her neck out and defied people telling her to leave it alone.

But the scale of this is unimaginable. It’s not just M&B homes, it’s laundries, it’s industrial schools, it’s giant psych hospitals.

We had to listen to people talk about how terrified they are to walk through Dublin City, while also dismissing any significant rise in far right threat.

Why not focus on real threats rather than imaginary ones, see how that goes

Timmy Dooley is a landlord and has declared income from properties in Rathfarnham and Ringsend. The cheapest one bed listed in daft in these places is 1600 a month. He also owns land in Co. Clare. #speirgorm

A major barrier to NHS productivity is that it thinks of cost cutting in silos not value adding across systems. This means that lower costs in one silo can cause huge waste in other silos making the whole system far less productive...

One candidate literally couldn’t submit a form on time. If people can’t put in any effort - why should they get a shot. We all see the sheer graft tds & part time councillors put in years before a run but presidential candidates can rock up a few weeks beforehand. Total nonsense.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin has said the Oireachtas may have to look at changing the process by which a person gets on the ballot in presidential elections, which he described as "restrictive".

If Maria S started in good time, she’d probably have been on the ballot. She left it to the wire to get what she needed and, if she has that little respect for the job, she doesn’t deserve it. Her Respectable Veneer will be used to push this agenda, but scratch her and she’s just as bad as Conor Mc.

I 100% endorse this message. The spoiled votes are a 3rd or 4th order story in this election and disproportionate attention and airtime is a measure of the level of editorial discomfort with talking about Connolly’s success and FF/FG failure.
Catherine Connolly got more votes than any other president in history - any pol corr or commentator trying to convince you that the story is actually the spoiled votes is showing you their whole arse, and should be treated accordingly.

Yes.

There is a very big difference between potential candidates who fail to get nominated and think “I must prepare better next time” and those who think “The system must change to meet the level of effort I’m willing to put in”.
Remember that it is now easier than it has ever been for a candidate to get nominated for the Áras, because there are more Oireachtas members now than ever before!

We don't need to change the law to facilitate some entitled shithead cogging their homework on the bus to school. Just prepare better!

The correct response of course would be to see this as a wake up call that more needs to be done to combat the rise of the far-right. Build civic literacy, media literacy, and most importantly build a fairer society so people aren't drawn to the politics of hate and resentment.
