At about the 50-minute mark I was thinking: Well, this is no more excessive than it needs to be, and for once the director's extreme bad taste fits the material.

And then I resumed watching and, well, the hell with that.

Somewhat shockingly, Oliver Reed is a relative exemplar of dignity.
