To be fair, I genuinely believed the entire island of Puerto Rico was pranking me when folks from there told me the coquí sound comes from a frog and not a bird, so I can totally believe this.
My partner & I were trying to ID a bird we heard while walking and the guy who had stopped his car to let us pass got out and was like "it's a frog, actually. Cope's Gray. I do frog surveys... Sorry" And then got in his car without a word and drove off. Absolute king

"Detained" is an interesting word choice. It sounds official but it just means they grabbed him. They couldn't say "arrested" because that would open up questions like "on what authority" and "for what charge." If you or I "detained" someone we could be charged with unlawful imprisonment

Relatedly, if you haven't been in an archives you have no idea just how much historical material is not online, not even a digital record of it. An LLM cannot research data it doesn't have. It can't even extrapolate where to find that material.

nearly the entire SS got off scot free from Nuremberg. most of the Einsatzgruppe were allowed to live peaceful lives.

our grandparents fucked up the peace.

don't make the same mistakes.
ICE agents better start reading up on the Nuremberg trials. Because when we get to the other side of this, and we will, "I was just following orders" ain't gonna cut it.

just a really long sustained and, as it goes on, increasingly obviously sarcastic round of applause to every Democratic op who is still pushing the utterly failed "culture war stuff is just a distraction" narrative and using "woke" as a pejorative.

Republicans are gross weirdos just keep saying it.
Democrats just flipped the Omaha mayor's office with ads like this. The right-wing obsession with genitals is starting to backfire.

NYT doesn't believe in context. I really want you to grasp that.
It’s very strange that this article on the staffing issues at Newark Airport doesn’t mention the fact that DOGE fired 400 FAA employees a few months ago, and union officials warned about exactly these kinds of shortages.

No. No one was shy. He didn’t care whether or not we women wanted his attention. The entire environment was to feed him, the predator, and if you tried to get away from it you were penalized.

Senior folks couldn’t leave state govt unless he OKd it. You think we could get away from his harassment?

The technical term for this is a SEICHE, pronounced “saysh” - a standing wave in a large body of water - and it can be dangerous as hell.

ICE is not a legitimate authority, they should be treated like the Gestapo. They are armed kidnappers. This is a junta, and it must be opposed by any means necessary right now, or it will flourish for many years to come, after the brave people who fought back are disappeared or dead.
