NEW: The Trump admin certainly put on a show last week about changing tactics in Minnesota after ICE agents killed Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old VA nurse.

Trump even suggested it's time for "a softer touch."

Except residents say nothing has changed. At all. www.huffpost.com/entry/ice-mi...
Trump Using A ‘Softer Touch’ With ICE In Minnesota? Residents Say Don’t Be Fooled.
Two weeks after Alex Pretti’s killing, federal agents have shown no signs of backing down. The resistance definitely hasn't.

We've all heard "no one is free until everyone is free" etc but I really do think the example of the abolitionists is instructive: they knew that tyranny is rapacious and insatiable, that it spreads, and that violence visited on one group serves to demean and terrorize everyone else.

As historian Elizabeth Gillespie McCrae has put it, white supremacy does not just reproduce itself spontaneously...it requires the actions of "constant gardeners" like our current President who renew and reinvigorate it with actions like these. His actions have major consequences, he's not a child.

The racist video posted by the President is perhaps the most egregiously racist thing shown in the White House since Woodrow Wilson screened Birth of a Nation there in 1915. Here's an article from Denver's Black newspaper in 1915 calling for Americans to denounce such racist imagery.

Civil rights activist Medgar Evers was shot in the back by a Klansman in 1963.

The National Park Service has removed visitor brochures from Evers' museum and reportedly plans to remove references that call his murderer a “racist"

Among anticipated changes to a new visitor brochure for the Medgar & Myrlie Evers Home National Monument is no longer using "racist" to describe the killer of the civil rights leader.

This is tremendous. Take the time to watch it.

i think this is exactly right. fascism is the Death Drive as ideology. it's why the catastrophic end of the Nazi Party does not deter people from worshipping Nazis. that the Nazis destroyed Germany along with the rest of Europe is part of the appeal.

NEW: This week is the 50-year anniversary of the money-is-speech Supreme Court case engineered by John Bolton & bankrolled by Charles Koch - a case culminating in Citizens United.

After 50 years of endemic corruption, a new poll shows almost nobody in America thinks buying elections is free speech.
Poll: Almost Nobody Thinks Buying Elections Is Free Speech
On this week's 50-year anniversary of the Buckley case engineered by John Bolton & other master planners, most voters reject the idea that money is speech. That awareness can now boost new solutions.

So which politician is calling for the dismantling of the probably illegal database that ice & this government is collecting biometric data of protesters?

At the end of the day, the Black Lives Matter era was about whether people should be killed in the street, and lots of people decided yeah and put those little blue flags on their cars. It spread to everyone because it stopped for no one.

Last week in Minnesota, I watched ordinary people risk their lives to protect their neighbors. In the process, they not only won a significant—though not final—victory against authoritarianism, they proved virtually every MAGA social theory wrong. (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

I keep pushing back against this line of argument—which is exhaustingly everywhere—bc I think it’s important to make it clear that the Gadsen types have always used “freedom” to whitewash an ideology of oppression.

They aren’t hypocrites or misguided. This is what they believe in. Call it out!

They never flipped it.

It was always “Don’t tread on ME,” not “Don’t TREAD on me.”

The Gadsden ppl’s fear has always been of a govt that impedes their ability to oppress people.

ICE is demanding compliance from those they wish to tread on.

There’s been no change.
"How they quickly they have flipped the 'Don't Tread on Me' motto to 'Comply or Die.'"

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

A decade ago, when Trump one the first time, I and other Black writers tried to make us see that racism — both explicit and deeply seeded — was at the root of Trump’s rise. We were dismissed even as late as last year as people attributed economic anxieties to Trump’s wins.

It might be easy to find things like this merely petty or superficial, but that would be a mistake. Demeaning, erasing or eliminating celebrations or acknowledgments of Black America is straight from Redemption playbook, and is intended to reinforce the racial hierarchy and signal its reinstatement.
