I hate to give the slightest smidgen of credit to Lizza here, but he does note one thing that's right: it matters not just as a sordid and revolting melodrama. This is one of the most powerful men in the United States government and he's floridly insane in a way that's not just putting on an act.

The only other scenario that I can think of is that the Trump regime is satisfied that it's erased or redacted any damaging Trump references, so it's OK with releasing the files. The regime's goal has always been to protect Trump, and that surely has not changed.
