The switch to renewables is gonna be hard to stop because it’s business as usual.
The reasons behind this plant closure are a perfect illustration of why renewables ARE the future. They simply outcompete all other alternatives & are easy enough to produce that it's too late to stop their growth.

The real question is what will we do with that potential.

New England has said its final goodbye to coal power. Here’s how a transition to gas — and now renewables — helped shut its last plant down early.

Different realities, enabled by digital media.
Explains a lot.
It’s gone forever obviously, but in 2015 during breaking news you could turn on CNN, you could check the mono-Twitter timeline and maybe the left/right wings of online discourse and have a pretty good read on what “reality” was, but now everything is so fragmented it’s hard to know what’s what.

Losing our perspective

Maybe we don’t live in a crime free utopia. There are real problems. But it’s not post apocalyptic crime spree either.
1. This week, the FBI released its comprehensive crime report for 2024, which revealed that both VIOLENT CRIME and PROPERTY CRIME reached their LOWEST LEVELS SINCE THE 1960s

This a massive story. But you might not have heard about it, even if you follow the news closely.

Here's why.
Why you might not know that 2024 was America's safest year since the 1960s
An overwhelming majority of Americans, 64 percent, believe that crime increased across the country in 2024, according to a Gallup survey conducted late last year.

You can quibble with nearly everything I just said, but it's hard to counter the conclusion that today's market movements suggest that Fed independence is an incredibly valuable asset and Americans should be very careful to preserve it.

I don’t think we fully appreciate the depths of economic harm the Republican megabill will unleash on this country, and the ways it will affect things like the housing market.

Here are a few things I’m thinking about:

what’s genuinely wild about all this is that we have people on tv talking about LA as this apocalyptic hellhole they must invade with military force and I’m here and I haven’t seen shit all day, not even an abnormal number of helicopters

I drove to D&D tonight, I’m just hanging out! it’s fine!

Solar is winning because it’s the best investment. TX has added more than anyone.
First official electric power data release of 2025 is out, and US solar production continues to grow rapidly. It's up 43% from this time last year, nearing summer-2022 levels in winter of 2025

Basically correct. Spending matters too, but you have so many more options with a little economic growth and low interest on the debt. We’re meddling with both.
US debt doesn’t really matter as long as 1) the economy grows at least as much as the debt and 2) debt remains pristine quality with low interest rates due to perceived low risk, global trust in US financial institutions and economic and political stability, and US not defaulting on its obligations.

And it goes beyond the EVs. If we want to play any role in electrification, then we have a lot of catching up to do
The question is no longer if EVs are going to dominate the future. That’s fairly obvious. The question is now if the US is going to have any role in that market. Right now, it’s not looking promising. heatmap.news/electric-veh...

Yes.
A little touchscreen is fine. But I don’t wanna be swiping around to adjust my fricking wipers or the volume. Eyes on. Always.
LETS GO
Next year, the EU will require cars to have buttons & dials -- not just touchscreens -- to get a top safety rating.

This is a great move. Drivers can fiddle with knobs & buttons without taking their eyes off the road, but they can't do that with touchscreens.

(Even better: Tesla will hate this)
