Speaking as someone who's worked with Capcom, stays in touch with its people, and has, shall we say, professional room to maneuver, I'll just say that contrary to what the technical director in the IGN article asserts, I know for a *fact* many Capcom employees are VEHEMENTLY against this direction.

UBISOFT - Call for strike

Following the disastrous announcements made by Mr. Yves Guillemot (cost-cutting plan, projects scrapped, end of remote working, etc.), the Solidaires Informatique union is calling for a strike on Thursday, January 22, in the morning.

Cheapest yet (less than a burger) for a gem of a game. Gorgeous, too.

Pro tip: It is not a cover shooter. It's a superhero game. As soon as you can, start smashing up absolutely everything you can. You can have an infinite-ammo rocket launcher with a 300% blast radius upgrade on top of that.

Of course, it's also obviously unhinged what they're doing. Declaring that they're going to be cutting operating costs while also ending remote work.

I shouldn't have to say that operating massive inner-city corporate office complexes is not free. And it's also a cost to the employees, too!

Yeah, from what I'm hearing from people actually at Ubisoft studios... nobody is happy with the news except for the bosses, who are experiencing the same mass delusion as every other CEO who thinks that AI will finally rid them of these meddlesome 'employees'.

I still think about Infra, and wish I had pushed more people to play it when I had a platform. It's nobbly and weird and surprising, a first-person explore-o-puzzler which opens with PowerPoint then tumbles into conspiracy and catastrophe. Seconding this. Geocities was so popular that they couldn't keep up with demand at first.

LiveJournal had to close off applications for a year because folks overwhelmed them

Something Awful had to start charging for forum access to deal with the load.

And so on.
I was present for the birth of the web, the explosion of personal sites, and the blogging revolution, and you know what we never had to do? Beg people to use our shit.

Note: for all this discussion (which is accurate as far as it goes), note the text saying they were on “flights”. As in: the amounts seized here doesn’t even hit the reporting threshold. This is just straight up stealing from people because they’re (maybe) immigrants.

For those who don't know the regs, there are restrictions on the amount of cash one can bring into most countries ($10K USD), but there are very few restrictions on the amount one can send outside. So where we have 2 people, there has been not even a regulatory offense committed.

people are makin cow tools jokes about this and why not, but as a longtime believer in the sentience of non-human animals and great lover of cows in particular, I hope people will check out the story in full

Some site needs to snap her up quickly.
Breaks my heart to share this, but today is my last day at The Verge and I am looking for work! I'd really like to stay in video games, preferably in some kind of journalistic capacity but I can do PR/Marketing and maybe even a lil Narrative Design. Please get in touch!
