I grew up in a community where adults I knew and trusted ended up being pedophiles.

And at least one ended up being falsely accused.

The thing about violent rhetoric is when you normalize it, you also normalize it against people when you don't actually yet know whether the accusations are true.
I think violent rhetoric against pedophiles is fine actually. Do you not?

Mavs fans can't even chant "fire Nico" at the games anymore, truly a low point for the franchise

This podcast starts in the 1800s. I did not know I needed this in my life...but I do, I do! I love podcasts so much.
It was such fun to be on @ettletodd.bsky.social's podcast to discuss the films of 1908!
1908 E6 of The 5 Best Films of Every Year Ever is live! @benjaminschultzfig.bsky.social's work focuses on scientific filmmaking, nontheatrical film, and animal studies, but with his picks, he branches out into fantasy and spectacle (and there are indeed a couple of threads to the research). Links 👇

With ICE and other extremist groups trying to claim #Tolkien, this old post still holds up:

I learn to like things because of other people's enthusaiasms. I got back into watching Sports in the last couple of years (basketball and baseball) and it is the crowd that got me to keep going to the next level of understanding which makes me like it more. Same with books, movies, dance, art. etc

So it seems Trump etc are now saying the UAE is just fighting "Religious extremists" by supporting the RSF and the massacres.. you know the Pufendorf "if they don't have a violent leader the masses will just be more violent to each other"

It is the keeping of the tattoo instead of covering up that is wild to me. It is one thing to go on shore leave as a 21 year old and get a tattoo and another to be a man in his 40s with all the facist and anti-facist talk going on and still say no..I wan't to keep the "are we the baddies?" tattoo.
Graham Platner is my age. He's in his early 40s. We are both veterans. If you would judge me, random middle-aged suburban mother and BlueSky user, if you discovered I had a Nazi tattoo, I think it is fair to also judge someone who is running for senate for having a Nazi tattoo!
I think political writers actually should have an opinion about a guy in his 40s having a Nazi tattoo. The decision to keep it on their body may tell us more than their website.

BREAKING: Pope Leo XIV is set to effectively disband Opus Dei in the coming weeks.

This would be the most sweeping internal reform of his pontificate — and a dramatic continuation of Pope Francis’s legacy.
NEW: Pope Leo Set To Break Up Opus Dei
If Pope Leo does indeed approves a plan that effectively dissolves Opus Dei’s structure, it would be the most significant internal action of his short pontificate to date.
