Why give in now, Northwestern?
Marjorie Taylor Greene of all people recognized that Trump isn't the future, but Northwestern's leaders apparently think it's the time to get on board.
Either they think this is forever, or they have no principles and concluded there's no downside to collaborating now.

Northwestern bent the knee, choosing to give in to extortion at the expense of academic freedom.

Among the provisions:
-Pay a big bribe
-Give the govt data on students
-Validate BS about "fighting antisemitism"
-Be cruel to trans students

What to do about Vichy universities (now, later, or both)?
BREAKING: Northwestern University has agreed to pay the U.S. Treasury $75 million, over the course of three years as part of an agreement with the federal government to restore funding and end investigations into the university

Doing this when the recent elections and all the polls suggest that any fair election will thoroughly reject Trump and Republicans isn't just about cowardice. It's a declaration of allegiance to Trump's war on higher education.

AI Data Centers are the new pollutant factories to put into black neighborhoods that they pretend wont kill us. Gotta love that old school environmental racism.
“While Shelby County has recorded the dirtiest air in Tennessee for many years — half the state’s admissions for childhood asthma come from there — local residents say the arrival of Colossus has made things worse.”
In Memphis, where people fear Elon Musk’s supercomputer is making them ill
Colossus, an xAI supercomputer, is blamed for worsening air pollution in a historic black community

The reality, of course, is that Miller and a significant portion of Trump’s base are the ones who failed to assimilate to America’s post-WWII culture of multi-racial democracy & religious pluralism…and they are now using their power to destroy that once dominant (and still popular) American culture.
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

How many Americans will die or suffer because RFK Jr. has killed mRNA research and has used the federal government to wage his war on vaccines?

A reason we learned nothing from the GFC is that Larry Summers--lately of the Epstein Files--shut down uppity women like Elizabeth Warren who saw the crash coming years in advance & tried to stop it.

A small grp of men have been wreaking destruction on our world for decades & were REWARDED for it.

If I’m understanding this correctly, X is owned by a white nationalist who pays poor people of color in developing countries to pretend to be working class white Americans to scare other white Americans into being afraid poor people of color from developing countries are going to ruin America?

It’s funny how all of the free speech scolds, from the editorial staff of The Atlantic to the New York Times, Jonathan Haidt and FIRE to Robbie Soave, are utterly silent on a wave of mass firings over speech — the very thing they claimed to care about. Zero to say about discipline and censorship.
New: Reuters has tallied job losses, suspensions and investigations stemming from the reaction to Charlie Kirk's Sept. 10 assassination. Its findings: More than 600 Americans have been punished, and the figure is likely to be an under-count.

So I guess the WC be played in Dallas, Fort Worth, OKC, Fresno, Mesa, Virginia Beach, Miami, and Bakersfield (biggest US cities with R mayors)
Aside from being corrupt and authoritarian as hell, this also seems like a colossally bad business decision by FIFA. The sorts of Americans most likely to be interested in World Cup soccer are definitely not the sort to be big Trump fans.
I will not be buying any World Cup tickets or merchandise due to FIFA’s collaboration with the Trump regime.

Parents expect, when they pay tuition & send their kids to universities, that they will be able to take lab science courses or study foreign languages. They have no idea that this stuff isn’t going to exist at many places anymore without foreign students or federal funding.
Again, for the literal <nothing> sum of $86 million in a budget of trillions, we've funded area studies & foreign language study around the country & trained generations of students who have gone one to work in government, academia, the private sector, the military, etc. Just nihilistic madness.
And now, since our Dean wrote this (www.jsonline.com/story/opinio...), we've all received letters informing us year 4 of our NRC/FLAS grants has been cancelled.

International & foreign language education is "not a priority of the administration."
