this encapsulates the essential relationship between the people running universities, the people doing academic work in universities, and the people looking to smash and grab as much as possible from universities while we're on the way down
My employer, Dartmouth College, today boasts it's 1st Ivy "to launch AI at an institutional scale." It is doing this by partnering--"more than a collaboration"--with Anthropic, a company that stole the books of many faculty, me included, which many of us are suing.

The first school to market itself as AI free is going to corner the market on people interested in actually learning. And I would not be surprised if rich families and the children of people creating this tech were the first movers.

The most major issues with this book is its foundation in an ethical lapse and the failure to grapple with that. Lack of real structure is also a problem. Still, the thing that is most jarring to my sensibilities is the repetitive language.
At least 40% of the book is just tortured descriptions of her surroundings.

It is delightful to see the word "sitzfleisch" in a major newspaper. I'm not sure what to do with "sitzfleisch" juxtaposed against "Kardashian," though.

I needed some soothing TV so we're watching Murder, She Wrote, and in this episode a murdered escaped the murder scene without being seen by *pulling his black turtleneck over his head and ducking down in the shadows*. This show is delightful.

Update: The book looks nothing like it did in my mind’s eye, but the author’s first name does start with a T. Highly recommend, in spite of what my brain fart may have suggested.

I'm having a problem: I can't just recommend a book to my students by telling them that it's poetry about being an American in Spain, the cover is pink with an orange circle on it and the author's first name starts with the letter T.

@pearcele.bsky.social, your guys are making an appearance in NYC politics!
We’ve been having these debates all the way back to the first exile in Babylon. Some wanted to get back to Judea right away. Others stayed, and gave us the legacy of the Babylonian Talmud & diaspora.

They disagreed, and so do we. Maybe that’s why we call it Talmudic. 🧵

Attacking pre-school teachers because they don’t think Palestinian kids should be bombed to death? Declaring NYC’s first Muslim mayor “our enemy?” Fomenting hatred, even within the Jewish community?

You’re not making anyone safer.🧵

Once again, ILL remains the purest representation of scholarly community. I use it so much I often write little notes back and forth with the librarians when I’ve borrowed a lot from their library. It’s the closest you can get to those old penpal schemes and I love it.
Requested a book through ILL over break. It arrived today. Libraries man.
