Andalusi lit and cultural history at NYU. Medieval, but not like that. Trying to strike a balance between critical and creative writing. Chaos muppet, always. Still perfecting my gazpacho.
This year’s “el taller reads together” pick is Dr. Almudena Ariza Armada’s recently-published Historia de los Reyes de Taifas (Editorial Dilema, 2025).

Extremely niche #medievalistproblems: Celestina seems an extremely weird name for a little girl mouse in a children’s book.

(Oh, also, BlueSky wanted to know if I wanted to respond to you in Norwegian.)

Perhaps mercifully it’s not working for me?

Also: Story reported from the West Wing, or, as it is now known, the Wing.

No, because nobody can stop him from doing anything.

But also, why is *this* the thing that the Post is asking if anyone can stop Trump from doing as opposed to *gesticulates wildly at chicagoportlandvenezuela*?

I’m torn. In the one hand they’ve got the food packages illustrated spot-on. On the other, they’re asking us to accept that Grover is Jewish and enjoys eating matzah.

Kidlit recommendation: Cat Nap by Brian Lies. Gorgeously-illustrated story of a cat chasing a mouse through art in the Metropolitan Museum. Held the attention of a pre-reader who often prefers listening to stories while doing something else rather than looking at the book. www.brianlies.com/cat-nap

I think I offered to scan some maps from this book for someone on here. If it was you, remind me?

I found the book I thought I had lost in the move!

(It was actually published first in English but I need the translation for a class I teach in Spanish.)

I completely forgot we have the same cat!

I normally use this refrán in a class I teach in Spanish but I needed it for an English-language class today; not a half-bad translation job, if I do say so myself.

I am certain that if Zohran Mamdani had been accused of saying “these people and their fucking tree houses” about Jews and Sukkot Tablet’s response would decidedly not be, “Whether he said it or not, it’s an iconic addition to our Sukkot meme repertoire.”
