Parents expect, when they pay tuition & send their kids to universities, that they will be able to take lab science courses or study foreign languages. They have no idea that this stuff isn’t going to exist at many places anymore without foreign students or federal funding.
Again, for the literal <nothing> sum of $86 million in a budget of trillions, we've funded area studies & foreign language study around the country & trained generations of students who have gone one to work in government, academia, the private sector, the military, etc. Just nihilistic madness.
And now, since our Dean wrote this (www.jsonline.com/story/opinio...), we've all received letters informing us year 4 of our NRC/FLAS grants has been cancelled.

International & foreign language education is "not a priority of the administration."

So I say this as a proud academic labor union member who believes deeply in the importance of tenure to the academic mission:

FIRE
LARRY
SUMMERS

And I didn‘t have any characters left but as a Harvard College alum who has Larry Summers‘s signature on her diploma AND as a tenured professor who is active in her faculty union: tenure does not protect faculty from consequences, including firing, due to the kind of behavior he evidently exhibited

THIS IS BIG

For non-academics who might not understand why:
1. Sen. Warren is still a Harvard professor so this is a call coming from inside the house
2. As a tenured law prof, Warren knows it is a VERY big deal from a labor standpoint to call on Harvard to ignore tenure. The bar for this is HIGH.
Per CNN, Elizabeth Warren is calling on Harvard to cut ties with Larry Summers after Jeffrey Epstein's emails released last week by House Dems featured Summers making sexist comments + asking for Epstein’s romantic advice.

What’s the end game here? If entry level jobs go AI, how will middle and upper level roles replenish their ranks? Or will this eventually be AI too?
Kevin Hassett: "I think there could be a little bit of an almost quiet time in the labor market, because firms are finding that AI is making their workers so productive that they don't necessarily have to hire the new kids out of college and so on."

We've known this man to be a misogynist for over twenty years, ever since his infamous "women aren't as good at STEM cuz IQ." These emails just drive home the point
larry summers is genuinely, deeply misogynist in a way which is not even captured by his public contempt for women

at one point he sends an email which is just, explicitly, "I am going to extort sex from a junior colleague whom I explicitly know does not want to have sex with me, in exchange for career help."

It's remarkable that the number of news analyses/pundit takes that the Democrats are too extreme--out of touch, too focused on divisive cultural issues, too beholden to progressive orthodoxy--far exceeds the articles on the Trump/GOP's connections to the far right. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/16/u...

Larry Summers needs to resign or be pushed out of Harvard. This is absolutely unacceptable.
The emails have Summers reporting to Epstein about his attempts to date a Harvard economics student & to hit on her during a seminar she was giving.

Key Findings: Exposure to a field-specific faculty sexual misconduct incident decreases degree completion in that field by 3.4 percent four years after the incident. This decline is driven by incidents occurring after 2015, among which we observe a 7 percent decline in in-field degree completion.

I know it's not the point, but what is that on the other Cuomo's face?!
Dershowitz: The predecessor on your show described Epstein as a convicted pedophile. He pleaded guilty to one count of having sex for money with a 17-year-and-10-month-old person. That’s not a pedophile.
