I don't know what message works, but I definitely can't offer a better one than "here's all the good things we could be doing for Americans if we weren't confronted with a criminal government that won't keep its word". That last part is important: you can't make good deals with a dirty dealer.
democrats should offer solutions to American suffering wrapped around the ultimate poison pill: stringent limitations on the power of the president, and loudly blame the Republicans every time it fails to pass.
the Democrats should do literally nothing to alleviate American suffering until they are in control.

As Trump terrorizes immigrants, he now wants to create a carveout for undocumented farm and hotel workers. Trump infamously used undocumented labor at his hotels and resorts.

i find this notion that public spending is illegitimate bizarre as a matter of economics but totally legible as a statement of moral economy. and as per any strict system of morality, the punishment is part of the appeal. they are punishing the american people for believing in the public good.
