Yeah, my counter would be that it’s also insane for a centre-left party to have won power with a huge majority and have lost control of the narrative to this extent in only 14 months. It’s uncharted territory
Keep thinking of arguments for why it would be completely insane to dump a prime minister with a huge majority just 14 months in, and also about how if he's not going to say a single word in opposition to the kind of shit we saw today then I no longer feel convinced by any of those arguments.

As someone pointed out a while ago, once upon a time every bar had it's conspiracy theorist weirdo who'd ramble at anyone foolish enough to sit too close but was generally harmless. Now they have podcasts and form political movements, get people elected and wind up running government departments.

I am genuinely confused by all this pageantry. He was not an elected official. I cannot think of another time a regular citizen being killed garnered this response. It’s perverse.

…once those in power do not recognise political or legal rules higher than their own personal or partisan advantage it is constitutional ‘game over’.
