Today I had my 1000th story on the @chaserwar website! (not including the stories that are exclusive to the newsletter, social media and print, of which there are too many to count) (ok i could have easily counted them but it would take a few hours and I’m too lazy)In late 2019, fresh from suffering a stroke, when I decided to pitch a few jokes to an open call I genuinely thought to myself ‘who cares, probably just wasting someone’s time) and I was shocked when they wanted my jokes about Untitled Goose Game and Masked Singer (real hard hitting political satire)At that time I genuinely wouldn’t have believed this would ever be a chance of being a career. Since then I have somehow managed to consistently write new jokes, get involved in activism, regularly cohost a charting podcast, get involved in pranks, perform a tight 5 at the MICF, get into beef with tabloids, have my friends/family find out I was stabbed cause my then editor joke about it on social media, have a senator read a joke of mine angrily in senate estimates, do like the longest marathon research of Sky After Dark, have a mental breakdown from that marathon research, have a viral dunk on Elon Musk that he would then subtweet about, get block by News dot com cause I kept messing with their website, have a sitting senator call me demonic, and be offered the editor position at the Chaser.All this while under 45 meaning I am too young to work in tv in this country. (I was reached out to for an internship once but that fell through so it doesn’t count)More importantly I’ve made some really cool friends both in the comedy scene but also in wider media, social media and activism spheres. None of whom I would have met if I didn’t have the stroke/give comedy a go. Which I am super thankful for.As stressful as this job can be, I don’t see myself doing anything else (partially because I doubt I will pass any ‘just a quick google and check of your socials’ part of the hiring process in other careers)Anyway no more sentimental stuff cause eww yuck!!
