The reason I’m angry all the time is I spent the last 5 years trying to work on this with the The Adults in The Room™️ who briefly had the pretension they were taking this seriously, and they all abandoned it when it got “too political”—which was a form of surrendering to metapolitical terrorism.
It's really not that hard to draw a line from brushing off memeified social media Nazi content as "hahaha it's just a joke, lighten up, nobody takes this seriously," to murdering people in the street.
This is a good article about how pseudoarchaeological & pseudohistorical content can soften & spread extremist viewpoints. Extremists know how to weaponize & exploit this point:

💯. We treated enemy combatants - who may have been very recently trying to violently kill us - with a level of restraint and professionalism that appears to be beyond the imagination of a federal law enforcement organization handling non-violent American citizens.
So I always like to go "What would have happened had a Marine done this in Afghanistan" and it's so obvious in this case as to make the exercise moot.

i think a lot of Canadian elites (especially in the LPC) assumed that the annexation threats began and ended with Trudeau's final years as PM but Trump is likely to seize on what he views as someone who the rest of the world likes more than him

Don't know how to emphasize this any more. You are in a war for democracy whether you like it or not. The act of doing nothing — or doing things insufficiently — will lead to the replication of Minneapolis in every major American city.
Authoritarianism doesn’t announce itself. It arrives wrapped in “security,” “order,” and “law enforcement.” Minneapolis is being used as a proving ground. If we don’t stop this now, we may not get another chance.

Just saw the Minneapolis ICE murder video. It was very disturbing. Dude just started shooting like he was tired of playing around with a man already on the ground. The other ICE "agents" didn't bother to stop him as he unloaded on the guy who was likely dead after the first 2 shots.

We Should Have Finished Reconstruction: A Brief History Of American Politics, 1865-2026
Take note: this is exactly what happened at the end of Reconstruction. Black people were on their own without any political or legal recourse to the terroristic violence they faced. It is living in a reign of terror with a very violent end.
There has been an increasing sense in Minneapolis that we are on our own, that our elected representatives are unwilling and/or unable to take action to get these murderous Nazi thugs out of our community. I really hope that changes today. The time for pleading TV hits ended weeks ago.
