My latest for the @atlanticcouncil.bsky.social.

BLUF: Peninsular stability is linked directly to Taiwan Strait stability. Military planners should approach the simultaneous threats of the #PRC and #DPRK with this fact in mind. #WriteFightWin

South Korea is the ideal anchor for the first island chain
Discussion of the first island chain largely overlooks South Korea, an ideal "anchor" that could prove decisive in a US-China conflict involving Taiwan.

What will #Europe's role be in a #Taiwan contingency? The Centre for Security, Diplomacy and Strategy (CSDS) ran a TTX to explore this very question, and its results can be found in the following paper:

"Some computer simulations have had to rely on... human players who sit at computer terminals and control enemy forces in the game and thus function as a sort of human AI."

Gotta get past all the *Human AI* in that very human activity, war.

I've created posters to fight China's propaganda:

1) China's claims over Taiwan have no legal basis.

2) China has a history of misinterpreting and violating international agreements for its own territorial expansion.

3) A simpler version explaining Taiwan's independence.

This is the date we should actually celebrate the Marine Corps Birthday.
Nov. 19, 1775: Gen. Washington writes to Congress warning that their recent decision to raise two battalions of Marines will “entirely derange” his Army if the officers and men are taken from there. He urges recruitment be done in Philadelphia so as not to cannibalize his strength in Massachusetts.

This is critical. So many of the recent pieces from US think tankers calling to appease China by abandoning Taiwan don't account for the rest of the countries in the region that will be placed at great risk by such a move and a subsequent Chinese invasion. They will act in their own defense.

"Hey when it's time to wake up, why do #Marines scream 'REVEILLE REVEILLE REVEILLE!' like their lives depend on it?"

Because apparently it does:
Nov. 8, 1925: A Marine corporal, furious at a private for failing to wake up at Reveille, shoots him to death. Cpl. John Kulick is arrested for murder in the killing of John Ban at their Washington base. He will be sentenced in 1926 to 20 years to life in prison.
