I was so happy to be able to indulge my inner geek in this “Why We Fight” episode w/ @motheroftanks.bsky.social. WWII sightings of “foo fighters” were real; were really weird; & remain unexplained:

Your service matters.

Your reasons for serving matter.

Those who inspired, and shaped, and mentored you matter.

Those who came before, those who paved the way, those who broke through barriers and glass ceilings, and those who fought to but were held back by the times — matter.
The Army deleted my “Why I served” video where I talked about how I decided I wanted to attend West Point/join the Army after one of the cadets my family used to sponsor died in combat. Probably deleted because she was the first black woman to be CSM at West Point.

I have a whole episode on this actually… one of the earliest episodes from the 1943 series.

And I’d like to thank Bill Nance for another great episode, this time on Army Groups and higher echelon command in WWII, using Ninth Army under Simpson as an example.

I’d like to thank Nate Jennings, Jason Boswell, and Tim Gilhool for helping provide some back history that builds deeper understanding and appreciation for the combat and logistical situations throughout 1944, and I’d like to thank Bill Nance for a great episode, this time on Army Groups & Command.

I’d like to thank @kdcampbell.bsky.social for another episode on wartime movies, this time focusing on Tunisian Victory and Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo, both released in 1944. In the 1943 series Ken also covered two movies and I will also include a link to that episode for those who missed it.

I’d also like to thank Myra Miller for sharing her experience researching her father’s WWII service, and how that led to her work as a historian and founder of Footsteps Researchers.

Wanna hear about how disorganized Allied joint propaganda efforts were, 1970s cereal commercials, and how John Huston would be totally canceled today? No? Too bad- listen to the latest episode of the Why We Fight 1944 podcast & learn you some stuff. Apple Podcasts: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/w...

Just going to put this here for a sec…

Canceling classes and changing curricula doesn’t erase history and facts.

I will continue to hold onto and share these stories and more.
Similar cancellations happened at the Army War College in Carlisle PA. Canx history courses about Black Soldiers and Women in Combat.
The Air Force is stripping Tuskegee Airmen lessons from basic training curriculum because of our White supremacist government.
Put that in a headline.

Let’s change it up a bit!

In this episode of the @cimsec.bsky.social Sea Control Podcast, I got to talk with @briankerg.bsky.social about my #WhyWeFight series and my takes on how and why this history is important. (Also, Pixel has an unscripted cameo.)

I have had a lot of great experiences recording but this was one of my favorite sessions to do. First, @motheroftanks.bsky.social and Grant Harward are awesome! I also personally love studying and talking this lesser known but very large offensive.
I’d like to thank Dr. Grant Harward and Dr. @luketruxal.bsky.social for this two-part episode on Allied raids against Romania, in particular the Jassy-Kishinev offensives.

Did anyone ask for 2+ hours on the air war over Romania in 1944? No? Here it is anyway!

We cover American, Romanian, British, German, & Soviet sides, integrate how ground combat influenced the air campaign (& vice versa), & more.

Thanks @motheroftanks.bsky.social for hosting Luke & me!
