How many days do you think it will be to get back over a hundred or countries via FT8 in 24 hours? We are monitoring 10 - 160 m FT8 around the clock here in Vancouver. Today we are back over 50 after all the CME rattling of the ionosphere.

Comparing the reach of my APRS receive-only iGate (that small purple blob) at about 200 feet ASL with that of the BC FM Society APRS iGate all the way up at 3800 feet on Mount Seymour here in Metro Vancouver.

Wonderful collage from the people at @accuweather. November 11-12 really was the #2 geomagnetic storm of solar cycle 25 (so far). Seen in every state, save for Hawaii.

Tracking those government planes... "Software engineer and plane tracking enthusiast John Wiseman (@lemonodor.bsky.social) recommended ADS-B Exchange and Airplanes.live, another service. “They don’t use FAA data..."

Some background on the problematic radio on the ISS. The Kenwood is pretty old.

1600 UTC/8 AM Pacific. Current conditions for space weather and HF propagation in shots 1, 2. A view of the past 24 h for HF monitored in Vancouver for 10-160 m (3), and (4) a look at the Hp30 index over the past 24h.

Consolation prize... no ISS SSTV today, and perhaps not at all for the currently planned event (due to a problem with the radio on the ISS). But managed a partial image from ArcticSat1.

Another beauty from last night...
Here's 1 of 2500+ photos I took last night. My camera is looking south south east. The aurora way brighter and faster last night compared to what I saw the previous night. This is just a teaser, as I have a lot of aurora content that is crunching on my computer now.

Chaotic realm...
There could be another lunar encounter in April of 2026 and after that things get really unstable. We're now in a very chaotic realm where CHANDRAYAAN 3 service module could end up in solar orbit or impacting the Moon or even Earth.

Back down to the lowest of the greens! A last look at the "red" which produced so much memorable auroral action across North America. May 10-11 2024 was a superstorm for the ages. Nov 11-12 2025 stands as a close second. More data to come.

As the ionospheric rattling subsides HF radio propagation begins to pick up. Here's an overview. Current conditions for space weather and HF propagation in shots 1, 2. A view of the past 24 h for HF monitored in Vancouver for 10-180 m (3), and (4) a look at the Hp30 index over the past 24h.

Back into the green! For the Hp30 space weather index that is, after an eventful 48 h of wonderful @auroraborealis for much of North America, with reports from as far south as Puerto Rico, putting this event, by some measures, on a par with the May 10-11 2024 superstorm.

ISS SSTV event terminated.

Apparently the transmitter packed it in after one orbit of transmissions.

Amidst all the #Auroraborealis action here's today's "blue marble" full-disk shot from GOES-18. At 2030 UTC / 12:30 PM PST. As received and processed from the 1.7 GHz radio signal with my own @Nooelec ground station operating in Vancouver.

A solid "6" and spikes to "7", but down a notch from yesterday's numbers. #Auroraborealis
November 13, 2025 at 3:56 AM
Lots of energy being dissipated. Approaching 200 gigawatts.Should be getting some #auroraborealis around the Great Lakes states and across Ontario and into the prairies.

Strike 3! Arrived around 2000 UTC / noon PST. Will it be a biggie? Stay tuned. Initial indications are that it won't be as big as strike 1 was.

The tale of the tape, as it were, for the overnight (North American time) solar storm CME event. The red intervals start at 0000 UTC Nov 12 (4 PM PST Nov 11) and run through 1230 UTC (4:30 AM PST Nov 12). We may see some more "red" later today.
