Somewhere along the line, “neoliberal” came to mean the same thing as “cringe”

the thing is that annoying people calling things other people like 'bourgeois' was very much a feature of the Beatles era and this is just an update
We need occupational licensing for using the word ‘neoliberal’ immediately

When I have said that neoliberal, as used in the discourse, doesn't mean anything except as an empty vessel for the speakers disdain, this is the sort of thing I was talking about.

Wife and I settled on watching the Force Awakens tonight and I am once again baffled the Internet hates this movie. It’s definitely got some Abrams fingerprints on it - lens flare and comic book quipping - but damned if he didn’t internalize everything about Star Wars.

Man this take held up huh
Seeing some takes that are like "Rufo isn't an evil genius" and like one of the biggest things people are going to have to understand about the coming years is that wielding power and harming others rarely requires cleverness or intelligence to do.

I don’t pay attention to this enough to know the specific alleged ways tech has been treated like shit by Dems, but this reads pretty nakedly like they wanted impunity in exchange for campaign contributions, which means they were ending up on Trump’s side eventually no matter what.

This is exactly right. Trump’s big advantage is that he’s playing tic-tac-toe without a pencil but somehow convinces people he’s multiverse time-travel chess.
There’s a narrative that Gaetz was a deliberate head-fake — a distraction to boost the real candidate — but I am always suspicious of narratives that attribute four-dimensional chess to trump as opposed to knocking over the table and eating the checkers.

Rep. Torres is giving voice publicly to what numerous NY Democrats fear privately but won’t say: that Hochul is too damaged and unpopular to win in 2026, that if she runs for re-election as governor she could lose — and take down some House Dems in NY swing districts, a la 2022.

I think one thing that can be hammered home again and again is *how hard and expensive legal immigration is.*. Most people have a wildly distorted idea of this, and if you explain how difficult and time consuming it is are almost always in favor of making it easier!
you can pretend it's 2020 forever if you want I guess, but Donald Trump just won the popular vote running on mass deportations *and* made massive strides among latino voters doing so, if you still think we're getting open borders you're like one of those Japanese soldier holdouts at this point

yeah it's like when you ask people how much they think the US should give on foreign aid, and they'll give a number they think is a reduction which is actually like 10x the real amount
And if you ask them what specific things should be done to make it harder, they'll often suggest something that would actually be a significant liberalisation.

I straight up think it is dishonest to make this claim without noting that a) the mobilization against the Muslim ban involved a thousands of actual people flooding airports and b) coincided with a massive mobilization of people on the ground in Washington D.C.
