The government is asking doctors to commit a crime by denying young people access to puberty blockers.

I hope doctors read the Conversion Practices Prohibition Legislation Act 2022.

Culture wars have casualties 😢😡🤢

So ... the government just forced us all to have referendums on *existing* Māori wards because Local Communities Deserve Choice, but now they're unilaterally abolishing our regional councils because they don't like the Choices we made?

It’s the time of the year (Summer) when the Pōhutukawa trees (also called New Zealand Christmas Trees) begin to bloom. Most bloom brilliant red flowers but this gorgeous beast blooms bright yellow.
This is how it looked this afternoon. 💛

Considering putting the word "Dick" in a headline (it's the person's last name)...

It's either:
a) funny
b) not appropriate

Will figure out which tomorrow 🤷

And we knew this. This wasn't speculation. We studied it, we had the talking points. We trained volunteers to explain this to people. It's not a surprise. Rich people don't flee places with good quality of life when we increase the quality of life. They might try to cheat us, but they don't leave.
NEW: The first two years of Massachusetts' millionaire tax has raised $3 billion more than expected.

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

This is so cool
This something I'm very proud to have done, in partnership with NatLib and @jingajik.bsky.social's team.

In 2019, we put the first 8 years of Rip It Up online, free, searchabe and downloadable. In 2024 we added 1986-98 paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/periodicals/...

This needs more attention: Zohran SPLIT the straights with Cuomo. ALL of his margin was from LGBTQ+ voters. Every Dem who ever said “we should abandon the transes” needs this shoved down their fucking throat with a ramrod.

If climate policy had a “best buy,” it might be methane cuts

A strong case: it’s among the most efficient levers in climate policy

Amazing thread of #nzhistory

Thanks @br3nda.bsky.social !
#nzhistory... Rewind back before the nz company...

The first big shot at colonising Aotearoa came way back in 1825. A rich British politician, John George Lambton, sent two ships to scope out the place for resources and trade opportunities.

It's 1870 in Aotearoa, the economy is in trouble...

The land wars faded out without much resolution except death and pain. The NZ gov was still called the colonial government. Māori had their own.

The gold rush hype in Otago, the West Coast, and Coromandel was drying up fast.

The push for clean air in schools isn’t *just* about preventing COVID. It’s that COVID really showed how poor the air quality is in schools, and we already knew how much respiratory conditions impacted on our general health from all the Healthy Homes convos.
This govt has seen that nobody (not schools, not opposition parties, not enough parents or teachers) have put up strong/effective pushback about sending sick kids to school with Covid, influenza, RSV circulating.

That widespread complacency has led New Zealand directly to this measles situation.

So the Prime Ministers new attack on teachers is their 12 weeks of school holidays which we all know many teachers work through.

Regardless. NZ Parliament has 20+ weeks of recess each year including a far longer summer break than most professions including teaching!!!

Adverbs are overrated.

Kids get made to use them loads at school... But that's to gain understanding of how they work, not because you should use them all the time!
On the topic of "vigorously denying".

One of the first things a wise barrister teaches their pupil is to lay off the adverbs.
If an allegation isn't true, say you deny it, or just say it's untrue, and explain why. Vigour is not a substitute for evidence, and it makes you look a bit desperate.
