Tonight’s Senate vote on the federal government shutdown should have been a time for strength.

Instead we saw capitulation and a betrayal of working Americans.

The American people need more from their leaders.

“I don’t care if you personally vote for it or not—make it stop or I’ll never vote for you again” are the words I just almost shouted into an answering machine.
On the one hand, no one's "caved" yet, as far as I can see? On the other hand, I just called my senators and told them I'll hold them responsible for any deal that doesn't fix the health insurance mess and address impoundment, whether they vote for it themselves or not

Jesus Christ, @kaine.senate.gov, getting a pinky promise to hold one single vote on ACA funding is not "a path toward fixing the health care mess" anymore than a lottery ticket is a "path toward fixing my personal finances"
“Um well there aren’t even any Senate Dem Press releases saying they support the deal”

IMO the bad deals don't happen if a dozen other Democratic senators are out there ragging on the cavers by name. Even the handful of progressive senators rarely if ever go there -- the body remains an elitist, anti-democratic institution.
Politico says the cavers have won. CR in exchange for fake vote on ACA subsidies in December. Politico at least says other Dems will give them cover. We’ll see. www.politico.com/news/2025/11...

I'm the spouse of an air traffic controller and I could not be more livid at the news that Dems might cave. I called and left voicemails for my Dem senators. If my family can hold the fucking line, so can they.

Caving on a deal that doesn’t fix health care is, and always has been, a giant betrayal of the American people.

Hold the line. Save health care. I’m a NO on anything that doesn’t extend ACA subsidies.

Did Schumer not pay attention to the recent elections in his own state???
NYC saw the highest turn-out for a non-presidential election in 50 years - 2 million people voted - not for the mainstream corporate Dem. And incumbent Republicans were defeated elsewhere in the state. Sit down, Chuck.
The Democratic Party is historically unpopular with its own voters.

Caving to Trump and getting nothing in return will only bring these numbers down further.

It’s a historic failure—and an opportunity to push for changes to the electoral system.
Democratic Party hits lowest approval in over 30 years: Poll
The only policy areas where Democrats outperform Republicans in the new poll from the Wall Street Journal are health care and vaccine policy.

Do you think I will *ever* respond to the endless campaign contributions texts? Of canvass, or organize?

If Dem leadership is going to quit, why should anyone GAF?

I've defended establishment democrats a lot, as a lot of what they do has some justification, but this is my own breaking point. There is literally no good reason to cave now after holding on for so long. Either cave right away so people don't suffer for no reason, or ACTUALLY hold the damn line.
Glad we've taught the Trump administration that starving 42 million people and disrupting air travel is how they get whatever they want, though. Good precedent with 3 years left in this nightmare.

Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

@durbin.senate.gov I am one of your constituents asking you to not cave to the GOP on the government shutdown. We all know they will not deliver on any promises made as part of a "deal." They created this and are rightly being blamed for it by the people. Let them pay the price for it.
