Daisy Cooper, "In 2017 there was not a single asylum seeker that arrived on a boat"

"Today we have 46,000 a year"

"And do you know why?"

"Brexit"

"Pushed through by Boris Johnson and championed by Nigel Farage"

Shame Jonathan Gullis joined Reform. He had a bright future in standing next to a pub fruit machine telling you what buttons to press.

Useful reminder from Peter Kellner on the problems we refuse to acknowledge are getting better, and the politics of hopelessness that this breeds

Bear with me, I anticipate your disagreement. There is a clear pattern to the advice given to those who want to press back against rising racism. What it boils down to is that if you point out that racism is often being dressed up as “legitimate concerns” you will alienate people. /1

I’ll repeat: we currently have 7,448 life prisoners. That’s all the prisoners still alive who have ever been given a life sentence.

Farage’s “policy” is to almost double that number inside 12 months. And then, inevitably, double it again. And again.

I repeat: at what cost?

Perhaps we need an intermediate form of proscribing for organisations that have no intention of abiding by the law, with lesser sanctions, to deal with non-terrorist dickheads. I'm open to that. But no one gets a free pass for serious illegality just because they think their cause is just.

Private Eye exposing again the utter idiocy of our politics.
This sums up *exactly* how Farage and Reform get rocket-boosted by a media, drunk on sensationalist nonsense. Unserious and irresponsible but it’ll be up to us to prove them wrong.
