In case you are confused about respectability politics, here is a prime example. Pete, they will come for you, too.
Speaking at a Texas Tribune Festival on Friday, former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg criticized the Democratic Party for failing to reach everyday Americans, arguing that it “got sucked in” to a conversation about identity. #TribFest25
Pete Buttigieg critiques Democrats for focus on identity
The former U.S. transportation secretary said the Democratic Party should focus more on issues gripping the country, such as health care and housing affordability.

It took me a minute to realize your point, so please forgive me spelling it out here for other folks like me:

There's nothing explicit or sexual in the QP. The algorithm is defining "gay/homosexual/LGBTQ+" as "adult content." That is bullshit.

Whenever people diss the romance genre or act as if it is by definition second-rate, I think about how genuinely difficult it is to write a truly effective (and non wince-inducing) consensual sex scene (whether cute, fun, passionate, tragic, comedic, horny, moving, etc). Especially an explicit one.

Knitwear made with wool from a sanctuary for gay sheep was sent down the runway this week in NYC as part of “I Wool Survive,” a campy knitwear fashion show that event sponsor Grindr describes as the “world’s first truly gay fashion collection.”

Reminder to get your flu shot! I finally got mine the other day.
Great to see a new FluView post from #CDC today after weeks without updates.
It's not yet flu season in the US, but activity is starting to pick up. www.cdc.gov/fluview/surv...

Art is resistance.
As always, today is a great day to support artists, writers, creators of all sorts. If you have the means, buy a book, sign up for someone's Patreon, commission an art piece. It's also a lovely day to leave a nice comment, post a short review, spread the word about someone's work. Everything helps.

I haven’t read the article but I can tell you what works for me:

Black lentils and drink plenty of water (where “plenty” is that rubric of your body weight divided by two = number of ounces to drink)
If you’re worried about your constipation, there are foods and drinks that can help. Here's what our reporter suggests.

Those who regularly peruse weather maps may see one for Friday from NOAA’s Weather Prediction Center that paints a large swath of Western Washington in a green shade for “Excessive Rainfall.”

I have a funny memory involving brownie bites and ecumenical experiences as a child. When I was a kid, on a saturday night I would spend the night at my friend Annie's house. (sometimes she spent the night at mine.) Annie was Lutheran, I was Catholic and we might go to each other's churches.

Because of this painting, when I was watching a recent episode of 9-1-1 and the onscreen patient did this arch, I said 'oh shit, tetanus!'
This painting by Charles Bell is an amalgam of 3 soldiers he had treated with gunshot fractures of the skull which led to them developing opisthotonos. You can read more about the history of the painting in this blog from our Humans Remains Conservator: bit.ly/3vDWO5D

Every now and then I remember that sponges are ANIMALS — that these seeming hybrids of plant and rock; these sessile, porous, tissue-and-organ-less barrels, tubes, and blobs are just as much an animal as a falcon, wolf, or shark — and marvel once more at the wonderful weirdness of life on Earth.
