So grim, and so stupid, and that’s all that is possible for us so long as mainstream media is dominated by billionaire assholes who want to keep things grim and stupid. We are fucked.
Australians appear to be increasingly warming to AUKUS. But one aspect still threatens to topple it for voters, writes Wanning Sun.
AUKUS is finding public support despite its many problems. Why?

I get the “fuck China/Russia” sentiment floating round for not vetoing - and agree, to a point - but also, the ultimate responsibility is on us, everyone in the so-called “West” who continue to allow our governments to commit such sustained, heinous evil. We’re the ones who need to stop it, not them

An interesting thing here, given the news, is that the secretary of education is the defendant in a suit accusing her of turning a blind eye to the operations of a child molestation ring that, there is no dispute, operated within her business from the 1970s to the 1990s
This is a direct attack on our children & our future.

At a time when we need to be doing more to prepare our kids to compete in the global economy, Trump is going after the agency that strengthens American education. Once again, he's helping our adversaries & competitors.
Trump administration to announce dismantling of much of Education Dept.
President Donald Trump signed an executive order in March seeking to close the department, but only Congress has the power to do that.

There is no downside
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action

That's more than 1,100 jobs lost at the CSIRO over the last two years.

"Combined, the staff association estimates that equates to cutting the agency’s size by a third."

This is more cuts to the CSIRO than was attempted by the Abbott government.

CSIRO to slash hundreds of jobs in cost-saving drive
The staff association at the nation’s leading scientific research organisation says the latest round of cuts marks “a sad day for publicly funded science”.

The value of reading history is you know that in 1860 there were abolitionists who were so demoralized that they thought chattel slavery would be permanent. 5 years later those still alive had lived to see its end.

🙃🙃🙃 cannot believe how short sighted this government is, honestly. Now is the time to be POURING money into research, not cutting it.
This is obscene.

The challenges facing the nation means we should be scaling up CSIRO, not cutting it to shreds.

While we are sending billions to the US for nuclear shipyards, our science and industrial base at home is falling apart for lack of funds and direction.

Okay so this is a small thing but has anyone noticed the price of ebooks has exploded recently? In many cases new releases are just as expensive as the print books? What is going on here?

There is no such thing as unskilled labor, only devalued labor.
“Ale" works in the carrot harvest in CA. She earns $3.05 for every box of carrots she packs. One box has 24 bunches of 7 carrots each. To earn $100 she has to pack 34 boxes or 816 bunches which represents over 5000 carrots picked in a day. #WeFeedYou

1. If America were fascist right now, I would not be posting here. Neither would you.

Instead, I - and you - would be trying to build networks of people *offline* who can support and protect each other, in the dark, rather than yelling at the president and his stooges in our own names. /2
