Hearings in the greenwashing case Parents for Climate v EnergyAustralia start today in the Federal Court.

As a backgrounder, this is my write-up of its significance, and its potential to deliver a reckoning for the carbon offset industry.

Homo Sapiens emerged about 300,000 years ago.

Imagine you gave an early Sapiens $9,000. And they looked at you and said “the fuck is this?”

But anyway, you piled up $9,000 Every Single Day since the first Sapiens walked the Earth.

You still wouldn’t have a trillion dollars.

A new edition of the UNEP's Emissions Gap Report is out. It shows countries making little progress in ramping up ambition, and the very low likelihood of current commitments limiting warming to 1.5 degrees.

We're probably avoiding 3 degrees, but there's much more to do. www.unep.org/resources/em...

This 'free solar hours' announcement is smart politics, associating free electricity with renewables.

It's also reflects the real market, with wholesale electricity prices dropping below zero every day this week in NSW and QLD during the solar peak.

A member of the Senior Executive Services (SES, i.e. a senior public servant) within the climate and environment department accepted a gift ticket from Woodside to attend an industry conference.

Question is why even accept this when tickets were just $150.

Conflicts of interest come pretty cheap.

Can you help raise funds for the RSPCA NSW?

I'm hoping to raise $3,500 as part of my plan to take on the Sydney Marathon next year - using it as a good excuse to support good causes. I'd love any support you might be able to give!

I know this type of analysis clichéd, but imagine how the optics of renovating a White House bathroom with marble and gold, while wanting to withhold food stamps, would play out for anyone other than Trump.

There’s a non-zero chance that by 2029, that Plaid Cymru could control the Welsh Senedd while Nigel Farage is the British PM, and the only logical way forward is Welsh independence.

The 76ers are a perpetual bin fire, but, in back-to-back drafts, have somehow selected players who could very easily be/have been the rookie of the year.

Hey Sydneysiders, and others in the line of fire for today's epic heat: Please don't fuck about.

- Drink plenty (not booze).
- Cancel your outside plans.
- Dress appropriately.

Just a reminder that no one needs to eulogise Barnaby Joyce’s political career. As a politician he took way more than he gave back in terms of public service, he undermined his colleagues and his private life was a shambles.

His only real material achievement was somehow getting re-elected.
