This month, Cork City Council will start construction of new safe, continuous and high-quality footpaths on the Banduff Road.

It’s part of a transformation of pedestrian infrastructure — in Ballyvolane, Glanmire, St Luke's and across the ward.

Shameless Garda PR blitz links road deaths to visibility issues in cases where there is no link
Comment & Analysis: Sadly, I have to start this article by saying, for the avoidance of doubt, nothing in this article says 'don't be visible'. Lights are a legal requirement, and it'd be a good start if the Gardai enforced them, and people walking should take steps to be visible on unlit roads. I get it, nobody likes it when people are walking on unlit roads in the dark without lights and wearing dark clothing, and it's annoying when some cyclists think they are ninjas.

Some line from so-called "rural Independents" — the Green Party in four years delivered more for rural public transport than these bluffers ever will.
Michael Fitzmaurice TD being given airtime to spout nonsense on the @rteradio1.bsky.social Today programme with David McCullagh just now.

"There can't be public transport everywhere," says Fitzmaurice, before waffling about how hard it is to "get" and "go" to Galway by motorway.

A person rolled their car into my teenage son a fortnight ago. It was broad daylight and the driver was looking down while their car was rolling forward. I know, because I was yelling, trying to get their attention. Drivers who don't see us are often not looking.
My son hasn't cycled since

The importance of visibility on our roads cannot be understated, particularly for vulnerable road users including pedestrians, cyclists, e-scooter drivers and motorcyclists.

Today, I saw a driver overtake a stopped bus and plough through a pedestrian crossing. He beeped three times as he sped though. The beeping was to warn people because, as he had overtaken a bus, he had zero visibility of who was about to step out onto the crossing.

But sure, more hi-vis, everyone

Another engaged evening of discussion between residents and officials on the framework plan for North Blackpool and Kilbarry.

This evening the topic of discussion was transport. It follows a meeting already on housing. The final evening will be on nature and amenities.

Absolutely none of which matters when motorists speed, play on their phones, drive drunk/drugged/tired, or simply believe they own the road.

My first email this morning is from a resident about motorists speeding through pedestrian lights near homes, schools, a church and a library.

It's constant.

That’s quite an own goal by Transport Minister Darragh O’Brien delaying the Finglas Luas by two years, and stalling on DART+ South West till 2030, on World Sustainable Transport Day, no less. Who needs Judicial Reviews when Fianna Fáil’s running the show?

Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the so-called "Rural Independents" reverse the 2:1 spending ratio of public transport vs roads delivered by the Green Party in government.

They're living in cloud cuckoo land — on climate, nitrates, housing, cost of living, public finance…

You name it, they've blown it.
Funding allocations for The National Development Plan...

We can’t cut transport emissions 50% by 2030 with these allocations. This plan doubles down on car-centric thinking—more pollution, less movement, and zero vision for healthy, sustainable transport.

1. THIS BILL PASSED THE ASSEMBLY IN MARCH 2022.

2. IT STILL HAS NOT BEEN IMPLEMENTED AND WHEN IT IS NOBODY SHOULD GET SLAPS ON THE BACK FOR DOING SOMETHING 4+ YEARS OVERDUE.

3. SAID BILL WAS BROUGHT BY THEN N. DOWN MLA RACHEL WOODS, FROM THE GREEN PARTY. NOT THE ECONOMY MINISTER.

I met a UCC student here last night paying €2k/month for private accommodation in Cork city

I learnt students are paying gentrified prices for damp mouldy houses, not fit for purpose with landlords difficult to deal with

Time to get involved in Cork Student Housing Cooperative

do you have any idea how much you have to piss somebody off to make them change their gauge
#Finland will begin to #Russia - proof its rail network, integrate with EU train infrastructure.

The Finnish government has announced the conversion of its rail network from Russian gauge (1,524 mm) to European standard (1,435 mm).

Thanks to Amy Campbell and the Echo for reporting the Port of Cork proposals for a new €80 interchange at Tivoli.

This will be a private planning application, most likely over the Christmas period. Members of the public will be charged €20 to make an observation, even though this is a public road.
‘Community deserves full clarity’ on Tivoli Docks plan
The Port of Cork Company (PoCC) will be applying for planning permission this month to significantly upgrade access to and from its Tivoli Docks site ...

The DFA officials at the Oireachtas Committee hearing this week were clear - to abide by the ICJ ruling, we must include goods AND services in the OTB.

Furthermore, officials also noted that the exclusion of services would weaken the Bill's ability to stand up to scrutiny in the European Courts.

New research compares the use of electric and regular bikes in DC's Capital Bikeshare network.

Conclusion: E-bikes make bikeshare better.

"E-bikes enable broader dispersion across the city by connecting more distant bikeshare stations and supporting extended mobility."
