Higher ed evaluator with too many hobbies. Non-professional native plant gardener and barely passable knitter.
Sources for this article include "anon faculty member" and "some college students".
Even by the standards of The Atlantic, this is an extraordinarily weak evidence base for an article.

Data from a tiny handful of schools that isn't measuring the variable at issue and a few thin, secondhand anecdotes.

We should eliminate cattle farming.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

the plan otherwise is running another candidate. running another candidate is a plan. maine has ranked choice primaries 8 months from now. running a good candidate with no nazi tattoos is a plan.

you don’t have to do this. there are 6 posts under this one & they’re all “you don’t have to do this.”

Bernie about Platner,

“In all due respect, all right, what I'm worried about, 50,000 Americans may die unnecessarily? And you're worried about a tattoo?"

When I asked about his comments about sexual assault, he said "Have you served four tours of duty?" I said "I have not."

Bernie: "Ok"

Yeah, I don't think it's censorious to say that a nazi tattoo is disqualifying for a US senator. It doesn't matter what the circumstances were when he got it, he's chosen every day since not to walk in to literally any tattoo shop and have it covered up.
If people affiliated with the campaign have to fall back on stuff like this in October in the year prior to the election, you're toast, pack it in.

You know, a small minority using structural advantages to temporarily stall the progress of an overwhelming number of people - significantly harming them in the process - and ultimately perishing without changing the long term outcome is not a *bad* metaphor for conservatives...
Harmeet Dhillon at NatCon: "When the next group of elites comes to demand we stop protecting fairness in hiring, confidence in our elections, safety in girls sports, we're going to answer them the same way that Leonidas answered on the eve of the Battle of Thermopylae: Molon Labe. Come and take it."

I mean, kinda depends on the plane, Tim!

I'm not an expert, but from what I've learned from @sarahtaber.bsky.social a lot of farm work requires a ton of dexterity and practiced and experienced skilled labor; machines just can't do it and this imaginary workforce on Medicaid won't have the skills.
Brooke Rollins on farm laborers: "There will be no amnesty. The mass deportations continue, but in a strategic way. And we move the workforce toward automation and 100% American participation, which with 34 million able-bodied on Medicaid we should be able to do fairly quickly."

I understand why in a system predicated on unlimited growth (capitalism) a declining population is bad. Buy can someone explain what is inherently bad about it?

As much as I love @fivefourpod.bsky.social I really hate that at this rate they will never run out of cases.
let the catastrophizing begin!
there’s no point in catastrophizing about a decision we haven’t even gotten yet, but it really cannot be overstated enough just how bad the worst case scenario is with birthright citizenship is. like “any mere semblance of self-governance is over” is one of the plausible outcomes

One of the things about Cuomo (and Trump) that hurts the most is the reminder that, for a lot of people, women just don't matter. Assaulting women is not disqualifying because our lives are less important than the price of eggs or whatever.

100% The only reasonable critique of "email jobs" is that in a world based on human thriving we would be using technology to reduce the total amount of time any of us have to work while collectively increasing resources. Capitalism demands that everyone work even if there isn't work that needs doing
email jobs are a triumph of human civilization and your ancestors schemed, bribed and murdered to get the pre-modern equivalent whenever they could.
