Higher ed evaluator with too many hobbies. Non-professional native plant gardener and barely passable knitter.
Ok, but like there are a LOT of white people still using the n word. The football team for the *US capital* just changed their name from a slur 5 years ago and people are still losing their shit about it. The underlying claim is so obviously false it's embarrassing.

I need Amtrak to be more affordable - I live 90 miles west on a rail line from my home town and fares during holiday seasons are $50-$90 one-way. With a family of 4, it's just too steep when driving is an option. They need more subsidies!

Part of the reason I didn't want to know the sex of my children pre-birth. I wanted myself (and the rest of the world) to avoid creating a vision of them that probably wouldn't exist. I knew they would be in inundated with social expectations their whole life, it didn't need to start in utero.

It's a both/and - planting more trees won't compensate for fossil fuel use and cutting emissions without restoring functional ecosystems won't stabilize the environment to support human thriving.

Right!

This is a teaching/testing problem, not a disability problem. You can just give everyone unlimited time on tests. It doesn't give people "advantages" because education doesn't have to be competitive. We decide to make it competitive, and we can decide to stop doing that.

I loved it when I saw it in theaters, and maintained it was a great movie until last year when, after watching Andor, I realized I could not remember anything about it.

It's true! I tell my kids and students "you will be bad at most things you do." It's ok to be bad at things and still enjoy them! Plus you can't ever get good at something without being bad at it first.

Educational research is a newer field, too. We've been empirically evaluating teaching and learning for less than 100 years. Heck, the idea of widespread formal education as it exists now is barely that old. There's just been less time for the field to really mature with robust standards/practice

Also, humans are actually unique in their lack of sex differentiation! Of all the primates and of our pre-H. sapiens ancestors we are by far the most similar. There is just as much actual biological evidence (more, really) that humans are basically the same across the sex spectrum.

Plus you'll have exciting career opportunities with job duties like "fixing bad surveys" and "making meticulous dashboards no one will ever look at but administration insists we have"

I have a minor breakdown roughly once a month because I get stuck thinking about The Hallow Places

It's also the unholy but inevitable child of ableism and a capitalist mindset on education. If you believe the purpose of education is to make people better/more productive workers and you believe that people with disabilities have a limited capacity for production, then why bother with education?
