"Scared of Charlotte" is a whole new level of "scared of cities" that I'd never even considered possible
Rep. Pat Harrigan: "I have asked Josh Stein, our governor, to consider working with President Trump to allow the National Guard to come into Charlotte ... use the National Guard as a force multiplier and they can a lot of load off the Charlotte PD."

even if you believe this drivel it suggests that he can't keep his own caucus in line and should be replaced
Schumer led Senate Democrats in fighting Trump over healthcare, period.

If you think Senate leaders can control members of their caucus, you don’t know much about the Senate. And before you say “McConnell,” remember why we still have the ACA when Trump and McConnell wanted it gone.

I was at my son's veterans day assembly and thinking of how grotesque it is to celebrate veterans when the world's worst people are abusing their service to further their own selfish, malicious agenda. These people are opportunistic, soulless ghouls no one would want to enter a battlefield with.
Trump's Veterans Day speech: "Secretary of War -- we like the sound of that better than the other."

This seems like the most straightforward and also basically accurate message.
instead of saying this was good strategy, maybe senate dems should say: "the republicans were going to kill people by starving them to death, and because we aren't monsters, we decided to let this fight go. We'll keep fighting. Stop electing monsters."

I 100% do not know ball in the business world but you couldn't force me at gunpoint to take that much investment from outside sources, especially venture capital. it always ends up like this.

it's probably the correct strategy but it's kind of boring in the same way that playing moneyball sabermetrics was correct and also boring. I wish more people would admit that the fact that it's smart doesn't make you a dummy for wanting your sports to be fun.
Elite QBs in the 2020s are check down Charlies whose only goal is to never throw an interception. Love isn't like that. Neither is Drake Maye.
Love is one of the last live by the sword/die by the sword type QBs in the nfl. His ceiling is incredible. He just has some bozo gene in him.

Why Elon Musk Got the Most Ridiculous Pay Package in the History of Humanity
Did Tesla just make Musk the world’s first trillionaire? Almost certainly not. But that’s not what his colossal new deal is really about.

the decision to make these movies turgid auteurist slogs with rigid continuity for 30somethings who reply to "DiscussingFilm" is one of the pre-eminent signs of the decline of the west
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

this is true but instead of being a plea not to be incandescent with rage (the correct response) it should give you hope or at least permission to not doom
one of the weirdest things that people believe on a website where the collective mood changes every thirty-six hours is that events completely unknown to 60% of the population, where 90% have the facts wrong, will have persistent effects eighteen months later

some interesting things to chew on in this thread
I think voters at large will very likely have trouble remembering details of chuck schumer selling out the aca by nov 2026. also I think in the next three months you're gonna see a lot of unlikely folks stopping by the dsa table at various no kings events

Everyone is dunking on this saying “haha he doesn’t know how insurance works! Idiot!” but the sad reality is that this shit plays with regular people. Dems need to figure out how to harness the power of simplification and sugarcoating he uses or they’re gonna keep letting him score points.
Translation: he has no idea how insurance works

Late del Toro is one of those directors who make me feel like I live on a different planet from the rest of humanity. I read so much about how beautiful this movie is. It looks like a cutscene from a 1997 adventure game about murder on the Titanic
