I am not a Catholic, nor do I believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ. But Pope Francis has always struck me as one of the people most willing to work hard to live the life of service and humility preached by Jesus, and was therefore an example to follow.

Rest in peace, Pope Francis.

A decline in the dollar is not necessarily bad for the U.S. economy, if it happens for the right reasons.

Unfortunately, it's happening for the very worst reasons.
The dollar is starting the week down against every major currency in the world, with the exception of the Turkish lira

I do not think the President asserting the ability to send anyone he likes - potentially including U.S. citizens - to a foreign gulag without trial is a "distraction". I thinks it's one of the main events in this admittedly three-ring circus.

Every time the Justice Department tries to claim the military isn’t actually banning transgender people, Pete Hegseth tweets that it is.

This is likely to come up at oral arguments at the DC Circuit Court of appeals — conveniently scheduled for tomorrow.

Yes, and if the history of military conflict teaches us anything, it's that shooting the people in your own trenches is definitely a winning strategy
I don't give a shit who says it, but Dems need far fewer conflict adverse geriatrics that don't have the energy to fight. It's a political war right now and we need more people that act like it.

People spend a lot of time wondering why the left is worse at using independent media to control the national narrative.

A useful exercise is to ask why the left is also worse at selling snake oil and pyramid schemes, because I think the reasons are basically exactly the same.

Right-wingers really really want you to forget this distinction. They want you to join them in separating the good people (who deserve rights) from the bad people (who don't).

They are incapable of imagining moral universalism. They regret the Enlightenment.

They are this country's worst people.

Well worth reading.
The obvious point here is that some presented "woke" as an existential risk to speech and academic freedom, and some people warned about govt censorship as a bigger threat.

The former were not just wrong but paved the way for govt censorship.

People are entitled to vote for whomever they want, for whatever reasons matter to them.

But when people who haven't been victimized complain that they're victims—people who have, in fact, been subsidized—and that this victimization entitles them to hurt others, no one's obligated to indulge that.
