Everyone already knows Republicans don't care about their healthcare costs! It's why the government was shut down for 40 days in the first place! They had just rejected a one year extension outright like two days before you all caved! A vote does nothing!
Kaine on why he thinks just getting a vote on healthcare is a win: "We're the minority party, but everybody will get to see who is standing for them when it comes to lowering their healthcare costs"

After yesterday’s surrender, we’re launching the largest Democratic primary program that we’ve ever run.
We will not back any Senate primary candidate unless they call for Schumer to step down as Minority Leader.
If you’re as pissed as we are, join this campaign to rebuild the Democratic Party. 👇

Democratic leaders have failed us again. It's time to get new leaders.
After yet another capitulation by Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats, it's clear we need new leadership capable of mounting a serious opposition to Trump's authoritarian regime. We're launching our la...

@schumer.senate.gov this is the government you decided it was worth caving to fund

Honestly, if you're a Dem Senator who genuinely opposed this deal, you should go on record spilling the beans on Schumer's orchestration. This is not the moment to bury your outrage. Your colleagues are not meeting the moment and you need to cut the dead flesh away.

@markwarner.bsky.social I expect you to oust Schumer for this or I'm voting for your primary opponent and getting all of my neighbors to do the same

if a Senator cannot compellingly and aggressively call for these bare minimum changes to party leadership—*any* Senator, no matter their name, policies, past accomplishments—then they cannot remain in office. and they should not know a single fucking moment of peace until they’re cast out for good.
The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.
Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.

A vote in December does nothing to hold Republicans accountable because everyone already knows they don't want to cut healthcare subsidies. You already were holding them accountable! Now you're not!

I think this is likely (looking at you @markwarner.bsky.social) and I need you to understand that if this is true and you're afraid of your voters being angry over this deal, you shouldn't be making it AT ALL
Important to understand this. There's a reasonable chance that your Dem Senator who voted against it and is acting mad now was in on the play. It's the same reason why they scheduled the surrender for AFTER the election this week. They didn't want people pissed at Dems right before an election.
The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.

Republicans could've funded any and all of the things at stake for the shutdown, but chose not to. By taking this deal, Democrats are giving them the leeway to make healthcare more expensive for millions with nothing to show for it. I'm livid.

Props where it's due, Warner voting no is great.
But I cannot support a deal that still leaves millions of Americans wondering how they are going to pay for their health care or whether they will be able to afford to get sick.

Trump is going to go on TV tomorrow and laugh about how Senate Dems caved for nothing, and he'll be right. Dems are going to take the blame for the shutdown now and they're pissing away wins for nothing. So stupid

If they’re going to roll over like this after an electoral blowout less than a week ago, why bother electing Democrats to Congress next year? What would they actually do?
Major concession from Democrats here is enhanced ACA funds aren’t extended. Preserving them was Dems’ central demand in this fight. They secured a promise of a vote (which Thune has been offering for weeks), but that could still fail. Even if it passes, Johnson has made no promise of a House vote.
Tentative Senate deal to end shutdown, multiple sources tell me & @frankthorp.bsky.social:
—CR through Jan 30
—Approps minibus
—Fully funds SNAP
—Reverses Trump’s shutdown RIFs
—Promise of Senate vote on ACA subsidies by Dec second week (details/outcome uncertain)
—Led by King/Shaheen/Hassan

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

@markwarner.bsky.social I am so serious this deal will end your career. VA voters went +15 for Dems DURING the shutdown. People are angry at Republicans and you're letting them off the hook for empty promises of a vote that goes nowhere and does NOTHING to help your constituents
