Three-Lobed Burning Eye is the first venue that published me back in 2008 (I'd received so many rejections that I forwarded the response to my mom for her so she could read it for me) and I'm so glad 3LBE is still thriving in 2025. A quality horror+ magazine. www.3lobedmag.com/issue46/

"In the dark times, will there also be singing?
Yes, there will be singing.
About the dark times."
- Bertolt Brecht, 1939
This is a really good reminder. Some recent acquisitions from @nadiabulkin.bsky.social @laurelhightower.bsky.social with a snippet of @haileypiperfights.bsky.social’s latest novel in the background bc we’ve gotten to a point where my TBR has bled over onto the dining room table.

33. @nadiabulkin.bsky.social, Issues With Authority, 2025.

Thank you @ghoulish.bsky.social for this Weird & timely 3 novella collection. So good!

Rating: a fab tiara & a box of flea market off-air VHS guaranteed to be cool, but you have to watch them all. Probably not cursed. Best of luck to you!

HELL HOUSE: LINEAGE: Minor characters from previous HH movies, amateurishly acted and directed, struggle to invent a reason for this movie's existence and choose something that's neither original nor in keeping with the spirit of the franchise. A baffling failure at every level. Grade = F. (Shudder)

Not me wiping back tears at the last pages of @nadiabulkin.bsky.social’s masterful “Red Skies in the Morning,” from her collection ISSUES WITH AUTHORITY. “Red Skies” may be my fav thing she’s written, it so completely gets grief & loss & life in a world that feels increasingly meaningless &hopeless
@nadiabulkin.bsky.social ‘s “Your Next Best American Girl” is the story I wanted THE SUBSTANCE to be. Beautiful & paranoid & haunting, an exploration of beauty standards and a culture that pits women against each other—against themselves—that treats its women with empathy not ridicule

These three novellas had me totally hooked. This is the type of deep, multifaceted horror that delivers thematically and at a sentence level. Recommended for Halloween!

A fair number of problems seem downstream from the fact that the best way to be a human is to grow, change, and evolve but the best way to be successful online is to never change and always double, triple, and quadruple down every time you are wrong.
