The Ninth Configuration (1979) is a gothic horror-comedy set in a secret military asylum in a gothic castle on an island in the Pacific NW. Jason Miller understood the assignment. His intensity & commitment is a marvel. youtu.be/_hAA_ppWwks?...

So good!
Watching the @nunkie.bsky.social live broadcasts of an M. R. James story is one of my favourite holiday traditions.

I buy tickets for my family in Wisconsin so we can watch together from opposite sides of the Atlantic.

I hope you'll join us!

I'LL MAKE A SPECTACLE OF YOU is a published novel!

My Gothic horror novel is a tribute to Black Appalachia, HBCUs, and Hoodoo, featuring a lesbian main character whose name and life mission are profoundly inspired by icon Zora Neale Hurston.

both relieved & disappointed to report that someone nearby has been doing midnight Madonna karaoke & sang Material Girl repeatedly over several nights. This per my insomniac neighbor. I slept through it, but apparently it infiltrated my dreams. Still kinda want to make Team of Men a thing, tho.
Last night I dreamt that Team of Men was an accessibility transportation option at our conference but
@meredithea.bsky.social realized it was pretty awkward. In the way of dreams I remember very little other than Scott Manning being carried down the hall as he joyfully yelled “Joan of Aaaaaark!”
I’ve been meaning to text you all day because I dreamt you borrowed these shoes from me but said they’d never touch the ground & I was like “it’s ok, they’re shoes” & you said “I have a team of men who carry me around at formal events” & later you sent me pictures of you being carried like this 😂😂😂

Crisis averted! Poor Indiana Bones! His steel cable snapped in the 45mph wind gusts & he came close to impaling himself on the fence and/or landing on our car. Our neighbors came to the rescue & all is temporarily well.

Gutted. We have lost a brilliant voice in the world. Rest in peace Alice Wong @sfdirewolf.bsky.social you were so inspiring to so many of us. Thank you for sharing all your words and for always shining a light on the disability community.

I usually don’t like linking to the NYT, but I think it’s important to know that they wrote and published an obituary immediately for Alice Wong. (It selectively left out parts of her disability activism that they didn’t like, of course.)
“One of the things that really gives me joy is the fact that there are so many amazing, brilliant, creative disabled people out there. But part of my rage — and it’s a very real rage — is that most people don’t really know about them.”

Super excited for this keynote from @gvaughnjoy.bsky.social!

Great inspiration as I finally finish prepping my old A Corpse For Christmas lectures into a blog post bonanza about christmas horror & politics, so this is a fab way to get geared up. (The genre has BOOMED in the intervening years lol).
IT'S HAPPENING!!! 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄

Join 'Tis the Season for my keynote and lots of other wonderful scholars discussing Christmas in Pop Culture all day in this FREE VIRTUAL conference
